2017 Cimarron-Memorial Football Capsule

CIMARRON-MEMORIAL

League: Class 4A Northwest

Head coach: Kory Walker, first season

2016 record: 1-8 (0-6 Northwest League, seventh)

Returning starters: Four offense, six defense

Base offensive set: I-formation

Base defensive set: 3-4

Top offensive players: QB George Tribble (Sr.); WR Marcus Phillips (Sr.); OL Isaiah Rivera (Sr.)

Top defensive players: CB Karion Harrell (Sr.); DE Cameron Anderson (Sr.)

Top newcomers: RB Jordan Norwood (So.); DB Norvon Harrell (Jr.); WR/RB/LB Marcus Poole (Jr.)

Key losses: RB Tyree Riley

Outlook: Walker becomes the third head coach in three seasons for the once-powerful Spartans.

He will lean heavily on Tribble, who passed for 373 yards and four TDs last season. Phillips, who had 20 catches for 169 yards and two TDs, should be his top target.

Replacing Riley, who rushed for more than 1,000 yards in two consecutive seasons, will be difficult.

The defense must improve if the team is going to make a playoff run. Cimarron allowed 40 or more points six times last season.

“With a quarterback with varsity playing experience, we expect to finish the season above .500 and qualify for the playoffs,” Walker said. “We are young at certain key positions, but should progressively get better as we go along.”
