2015 Shadow Ridge Football Capsule

SHADOW RIDGE

League: Division I Southwest

Head coach: Travis Foster, first season

2014 record: 3-7 (1-3 Southwest, fourth)

Returning lettermen: 16

Returning starters: Four offense, three defense

Base offensive set: Pistol

Base defensive set: 4-3

Top offensive players: RB Dominick Wilson (Sr.); T Matthew Barnard (Sr.)

Top defensive players: DB Michael Buyson (Sr.)

Top newcomers: QB Kassius Swain (Sr.); RB/DB Amaru Mitchell (Jr.); RB/LB Aubrey Nellems (So.)

Key losses: S Nick Patrick; WR/LB Torrey Graham

Outlook: Foster will look to lean heavily on Wilson, the team's top rusher and scorer last season.

He rushed for 945 yards and nine TDs last season in earning second-team All-Southwest League honors at running back.

"We expect to be one of the top rushing teams in the city," Foster said.

If that happens it would take some of the pressure off the team's defense. The Mustangs struggled to stop opponents last season, allowing an average of 36.5 points. Four opponents topped 50 points against Shadow Ridge last season.

Buyson intercepted a pair of passes last year and returns to lead the secondary, but the team must replace Patrick, who was the team's top defender with 35 solo tackles, three tackles for loss and an interception.

With Wilson leading the way, the Mustangs should be in the mix for a playoff berth.
