ROUNDUP: Jaguars’ Denton first, Wildcats claim team title in meet

Desert Pines girls cross country runner Marisa Denton won on a 2.5-mile course in 18 minutes, 37 seconds Tuesday at Sunrise Mountain.

She was followed by Sunrise Mountain’s Amanda Appling (19:11) and Las Vegas High’s Shelby Nelson (19:23).

Las Vegas won as a team with 25 points, followed by Desert Pines (53) and Sunrise Mountain (56).

Clark holds off Sierra Vista, Durango
At Sierra Vista, Clark placed four runners in the top eight to win a three-team meet.

Durango’s Stacie Mitchell won the 2.5-mile race in 17:15. Clark’s Elisa Vazquez was second in 17:32, followed by the Chargers’ Kira Espinoza-Levy in 18:25.

Clark’s team score of 32 was seven points better than the host Mountain Lions. Durango finished third with 61.

Vikings place eight in top 10, win three-team meet
At Canyon Springs, Valley placed eight runners in the top 10 and the Vikings were the only complete team in the event as they topped Canyon Springs and Rancho.

The Vikings’ Kim Guzman won the 2.7-mile race in 19:59 followed by teammate Ann Underwood (20:15). Rancho’s Lorette Yared placed third with in 22:22.

Smith leads Coronado to win
At Foothill, Coronado had two of the top three finishers on the way to 32 points and a win over Australia Select (39) and Foothill (57).

Coronado’s Erin Smith won the 2.5-mile race in 16:11, and teammate Kristal Hosaka was third in 16:43.

Evans leads Patriots to win
At Liberty, Joslyn Evans finished first with a time of 21:25 on the 3.1-mile course to lead the Patriots to victory.

Liberty finished with 30 points, followed by Boulder City (40) and Silverado (54).

Boulder City’s Danna Prach (22:16) finished second, and teammate Jessica Tobler (22:19) was third.

Bonanza tops Desert Oasis, Western, Indian Springs
At Indian Springs, Bonanza had three of the top five finishers on the way to 29 points and a win over Desert Oasis (41).

Western and Indian Springs did not field complete teams.

Western’s Lourdes Hernandez won the 3.1-mile race in 24:29, followed by Bonanza’s Felisha Scholz-Hoyez (24:37) and Desert Oasis’ Trissa Combs (24:58).
