Kayla Hoag won a 2.4-mile race in 17 minutes, 22 seconds to lead Clark’s girls cross country team to victory Wednesday in a three-team meet at Desert Breeze.
Clark won with 18 points, followed by Durango (54) and Desert Oasis (57).
Clark’s Julianna Thornock was second in 17:50, followed by teammates Carrie Rastello (17:57) and Kristin Hoag (18:08). Durango’s Emily Casale took fifth in 18:31.
Spartans use depth to prevail
At Cheyenne, Cimarron-Memorial placed only one runner in the top five, but still won a four-team meet.
Cimarron had a team score of 33. Faith Lutheran was second with 43, followed by The Meadows with 63 and Cheyenne with 68.
Faith Lutheran’s Caitlyn Orne won the 2.6-mile race in 18:47. The Meadows’ Jeneke Heerema was second in 19:00, followed by the Spartans’ Tiana Callejo in 19:24.
Pahrump Valley holds off Sierra Vista, Spring Valley
At Sierra Vista, Stefanie Thelaner finished third to lead five Pahrump Valley finishers in the top ten as the Trojans captured a three-team meet.
Pahrump Valley posted 32 points. Sierra Vista was second with 47, followed by Spring Valley with 52.
Spring Valley’s Dannica Puente won the 2.5-mile race in 18:14, and teammate Kristiane White took second in 18:18.
Depth leads Wildcats to victory
At Freedom Park, Las Vegas had four of the top five finishers to win a four-team meet.
The Wildcats’ Gabbi Blackburn finished second in 22:39, followed by teammates Alexis Emmerling (23:01), Jackie Ramirez (23:44) and Sharon Ortega (23:55).
Las Vegas won with 23 points, followed by Desert Pines (54) and Eldorado (56).
Eldorado’s Gaby Vasquez won the 2.8-mile race in 21:24.
