CROSS COUNTRY: Hirsberg helps The Meadows capture seven-team meet

Ellen Hirsberg finished second on Tuesday to lead The Meadows’ girls cross country team to victory in a seven-team meet at Bonnie Springs Ranch.

The Mustangs finished with 26 points, followed by Shadow Ridge (43) and Arbor View (68).

Hirsberg covered the 3.1-mile course in 21 minutes, 52.2 seconds to place second behind Sarah Marvin (21:48.3) of Australia Select. The Australian team did not post a team score.

Desert Oasis’ Brooke Locey was third in 22:13.4, and Jeneke Heerema of The Meadows was fourth in 22:18.2

Panthers take five of top seven spots to win

At Palo Verde, the Panthers had five of the top seven finishers to win a cluster meet.

Tori Landers finished third in the 3.1-mile race in 20:09 as the Panthers finished with 25 points. Centennial was second with 30, and Cimarron-Memorial took third with 114.

Centennial’s Kayla Roberts won the race in 19:27, and teammate Alexis Gourrier was second in 19:42.

Palo Verde’s Emma Wahlenmaier was fourth in 20:48, just ahead of teammate Samantha Reintjes (20:59).

Palo Verde boys win cluster meet

At Palo Verde, the Panthers had two of the top three finishers to secure a win in a cluster meet.

Led by a second-place finish from Noah Landers in 16:48, Palo Verde had a team score of 23. Centennial was second with 35.

Centennial’s Dajour Braxton won the 3.1-mile race in 16:30.

Palo Verde’s Andrew Goldsmith was third in 17:07.

Blaine leads Mustangs to win

At Bonnie Springs Ranch, Jonathan Blaine finished third in a 3.1-mile race to help Shadow Ridge to victory in a cluster meet.

Bishop Gorman’s Jacob Holland won the race in 18:15.9, and James Hunt of Australia was second in 18:25.

Blaine crossed the finish line in 18:36.8.

The Mustangs had a team score of 42. Arbor View was second with 66, while Durango was third with 71, four points ahead of Bishop Gorman.
