State bowling: Basic’s Olivia Lampkin holds on for 4A girls title

Basic’s Olivia Lampkin rolled a 688 series at The Orleans Bowling Center on Friday to hold on to win the Class 4A girls bowling state individual championship.

Lampkin, who rolled a 672 series on Thursday, entered with an 11-pin lead over sister Jazelle Lampkin and finished with a six-game total of 1,360 to nose out Samantha Conti of Green Valley.

Conti rolled a 712 series on Friday to finish with a total of 1,355.

Jazelle Lampkin was third at 1,283.

Arbor View’s Makenzie Derezotes (1,225) and Shadow Ridge’s Alexia Cassman (1,209) rounded out the top five.

In Class 3A, Western’s Justyce McCoy breezed to the title after rolling a 532 series and finishing with a two-day total of 1,082.

Del Sol’s Taylor Jeneary (900) was second, and Somerset-Losee’s Hayli Greenberg (867) was third. Del Sol’s Rosemary Gaj (843) and The Meadows’ Alex Peterson (838) completed the top five.

Boys

Spring Valley’s Andrew Guba carried a 90-pin lead into Friday’s final and cruised to a state championship.

Guba followed his 787 series on Wednesday with a 654 series Friday to finish with 1,441 pins. He won by 103 pins over both Ku’uleialoha Mortensen of Spring Valley and Devyn Patalina of Bonanza, who both rolled a 1,338 total.

Mortensen bowled a 279 game and a 711 series on Friday. Patalina had a 672 series in the final round.

Clark’s Kevin Ostfeld (1,289) and Liberty’s Terrance Rock (1,281) rounded out the top five.

In Class 3A, The Meadows’ J Yeager started the day 10 pins behind teammate Brandon Medina, but rolled a 554 series to claim the title.

Yeager finished with a six-game total of 1,132 to top Medina by 24 pins.

Boulder City’s Jamison Kaboli had a 559 series to finish third at 1,062. Makoa Hokano of Somerset-Losee (1,058) and The Meadows’ Jake Maeng (987) completed the top five.
