ROUNDUP: Mojave girls waste lead, survive Cimarron at buzzer

Mojave built a 41-28 lead on the road but had to hold off a Cimarron-Memorial rally to gain a 55-53 victory in girls basketball Saturday.

Cimarron scored 25 points in the fourth quarter and rebounded a missed free throw by the Rattlers with nine seconds to play. The Spartans missed a winning 3-point attempt just before the buzzer.

Shanae Ireland scored 16 points to lead Mojave and Jazzmine Robinson added 11.

Neomi Carter led the Spartans with 12 points. Catherine Wyre, Zerie Baptista and Veronica Alcala added 10 each.

Arbor View 44, Shadow Ridge 26 — At Arbor View, Jena Valenzuela supplied 14 points and 12 rebounds, and the Aggies grabbed a 23-10 halftime lead en route to victory.

Erika Lang grabbed 13 rebounds for Arbor View.

Palo Verde 52, Cheyenne 40 — At Cheyenne, Hayley Henderson scored 18 points, and the Panthers coasted after gaining a 28-9 halftime lead.

Shameka Smith added 16 points for Palo Verde.

Sabrina King led Cheyenne with 11 points.

Las Vegas 34, Chaparral 27 — At Las Vegas, Tia Matthews’ 11 points carried the Wildcats past the Cowboys.

Desiree Pierce led Chaparral with 10 points.

Liberty 53, Basic 30 — At Basic, Destiny Whitehead led four double-figure scorers with 13 points, and Liberty pulled away in the second half to beat the Wolves.

Amanda Delgado and Jade Washington scored 12 points each and Phoebe Baker had 10 for the Patriots, who finished the game with a 30-13 run.

Michaela Thomas led Basic with 13 points.

Tech 59, Faith Lutheran 40 — At Faith Lutheran, Cheryl Harless compiled 21 points to lead the Roadrunners, who outscored the Crusaders 22-7 in the middle quarters.

Julie Harless added 11 points and Mesha Phillips 10 for Tech.

Kelsey McCourt led the Crusaders with 14 points, and Dominique Bibbins had 10.

Lincoln County 64, The Meadows 17 — At Panaca, Morgan Christian and Marissa Smerek scored 12 points apiece as the Lynx cruised past The Meadows.

West Wendover 73, Calvary Chapel 22 — At West Wendover, Danika Sharp scored 29 points in the first three quarters to help the Wolverines blitz the Lions.

Estella Botello added 10 points for West Wendover.

Sammie Mann led Calvary Chapel with 13 points.

Henderson International 36, Indian Springs 24 — At Henderson International, Lauren Mushkin had 10 points and 11 rebounds in the Wolverines’ first Class 1A Southern League win of the season.

Brittany Huff had 14 points and four assists for Henderson International, which held the Thunderbirds to 15 points through three quarters.

Tina Traster led Indian Springs with 16 points.

Pahranagat Valley 62, Tonopah 35 — At Tonopah, Dakota Day had 18 points, and Pahranagat Valley used runs of 18-6 in the first quarter and 21-10 in the third to defeat the Muckers.

Amanda O’Donnell and Kaici Hirsch scored eight points each for Tonopah.

Lake Mead 25, Trinity 15 — At Lake Mead, Abby Gamino scored nine points, and Lake Mead held Trinity scoreless in the first quarter en route to the win.

Erica Barajas led the Thunder with six points.

4A/3A girls state roundup: Legacy, Canyon Springs ousted

Legacy and Canyon Springs couldn’t keep up in the Class 4A girls basketball state semifinals. The Southern Region representatives in 3A also were eliminated.
