Roundup: Moapa Valley wins Lake Mead Classic

Lainey Cornwall scored 12 of her 16 points in the middle two quarters Saturday to lift Moapa Valley’s girls basketball team to a 41-38 win over Boulder City in the championship game of the Lake Mead Holiday Classic at Calvary Chapel.

The Pirates used a 21-8 burst in the second and third quarters to build a 30-22 and held off the Eagles’ comeback attempt.

Kaitlyn Anderson added 10 points for Moapa Valley.

Ellie Howard paced Boulder City with 11 points.

Calvary Chapel 57, Lincoln County 44 — At Calvary Chapel, Olivia Bell scored 16 points to lead the Lions by the Lynx in the Lake Mead Holiday Classic.

Midajah McCarthy added 11 points for Calvary Chapel, which led 40-37 entering the fourth quarter.

Sadie Soderborg led Lincoln County with 20 points.

Foothill 58, Pine View (Utah) 53 — At St. George, Utah, the Falcons rallied from a five-point deficit entering the fourth quarter and outscored the Panthers, 8-3 in overtime to pull out a win in the Dixie Classic.

Dixie (Utah) 68, Legacy 34 — At St. George, Utah, the Flyers outscored the Longhorns, 40-11 in the second half en route to the win.

Palo Verde 59, Heritage (Colo.) 40 — At Fresno, California, Alyssa Maillaro scored 18 points to lead the Panthers past the Eagles in the Nike Central Valley Showdown.

Maya Bega added 15 points for Palo Verde, which used a 22-7 game-closing run to seal the win.

Green Valley 62, Valley 20 — At Valley, Rian Anderson had 18 points as the Gators took down the Vikings.

Julia Clark had 12 points, and Michelle Lagunas-Monroy scored 10 for Green Valley.

Layla Jackson had 13 points for the Vikings.

GV Christian 45, The Meadows 15 — At The Meadows, Abigail Johnson had 19 points as the Guardians defeated the Mustangs.

Chloe Lamb had 14 points for GV Christian, and teammate Faythe Jones scored 10 points.

Mission Hills (Calif.) 52, Spring Valley 49 — At La Jolla, California, Mission Hills rallied from a 29-26 halftime deficit to edge Spring Valley in the La Jolla Sweet 16 Invitational.

Bakersfield (Calif.) 65, Palo Verde 36 — At Fresno, California, the Drillers used a 39-16 second-half run to down the Panthers in the Nike Central Valley Showdown.

South Sevier (Utah) 72, Virgin Valley 37 — At Enterprise, Utah, the Rams built a 47-21 halftime lead and cruised by the Bulldogs in the Blue and Gold Tournament.
