Roundup: Kaitlyn Anderson powers Moapa Valley to title

Kaitlyn Anderson scored 19 points Saturday to lead Moapa Valley’s girls basketball team to a 46-36 win over Lincoln County in the championship game of the Lake Mead Holiday Classic.

Anderson was the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player.

Lainey Cornwall added 17 points, including a 10-for-12 effort from the free-throw line for Moapa Valley, which outscored Lincoln County 16-6 in the third quarter to erase a 22-21 halftime deficit.

Kailey Kelley paced the Lynx with 14 points.

Cornwall and Lincoln County’s Brynlee Wadsworth and Brooklyn Hafen also made the all-tournament team.

Clark 41, Virgin Valley 39 — At Calvary Chapel, Marieka Dent had 19 points to lift the Chargers past the Bulldogs in the third-place game.

Clark trailed 22-13 at the half, but used a 22-5 third-quarter run to take control.

Savannah Price led Virgin Valley with 15 points.

Dent and Virgin Valley’s Nathalie Lagamayo made the all-tournament team.

Boulder City 48, Calvary Chapel 34 — At Calvary Chapel, Hannah Estes had 15 points as the Eagles beat the Lions in the consolation final.

Madison Manns added nine points for Boulder City, which outscored Calvary Chapel 25-9 in the second half.

Tyra Perkins scored 23 to lead the Lions.

Estes and Perkins were selected to the all-tournament team.

Lake Mead 34, West Wendover 32 — At Calvary Chapel, Aaliyah Perkins scored 14 points to help the Eagles edge the Wolverines.

Leonela Covarrubias had 14 points for West Wendover.

The Meadows 2, SLAM Academy 0 — At Calvary Chapel, the Mustangs won by forfeit over the Bulls.

Other Games

Highlands Ranch (Colo.) 64, Spring Valley 63 — At La Jolla, California, the Falcons scored with seven seconds left to top the Grizzlies for third place in the La Jolla Sweet 16 Tournament.

Essence Booker had 19 points and five assists to lead Spring Valley, which missed four late free throws, including the front end of two 1-and-1 opportunities.

Kayla Harris added 17 points and seven assists for the Grizzlies.

Green Valley 50, Canyon View (Utah) 46 — At St. George, Utah, Shelby Clark scored 20 points as the Gators defeated the Falcons.

Samara Miller, Julia Clark and Michelle Lagunas-Monroy each added eight points for Green Valley.

Wasatch (Utah) 56, Green Valley 37 — At St. George, Utah, the Wasps jumped out to a 16-10 lead after one quarter and rolled past the Gators.

Temerity Bauer scored 17 points to lead Green Valley.
