ROUNDUP: Gross, Gaels take fifth in Sweet 16 Invitational

Ashlin Gross scored 15 points Saturday to lead Bishop Gorman’s girls basketball team to a 65-52 win over Bishop’s (Calif.) in the fifth-place game of the La Jolla (Calif.) Sweet 16 Invitational.

Zhane Dikes added 13 points, and Chelsie Pitt and Amber Lane each scored 11 for the Gaels, who went 3-1 in the tournament.

Faith Lutheran 45, Churchill County 27 — At Winnemucca, Kelsey McCourt and Samantha Leonard each had 13 points to lead the Crusaders past the Greenwave in the Lowry Invitational.

Faith Lutheran led 14-11 at the half before outscoring the Greenwave 9-0 in the third quarter.

 
Needles 50, Lake Havasu (Ariz.) 46 — At Mohave Valley, Ariz., Gena Chavira scored 17 points, and the Mustangs rallied from a 32-22 halftime deficit to win the championship game of the River Valley Invitational.
 
Abby Chandler added 15 points, and Holly Laswell scored 11 for Needles.
 
Ashley Milicki led Lake Havasu with 17 points.
 
Needles 49, Pahrump Valley 35 — At Mohave Valley, Ariz., Chavira scored 20 points, and Chandler added 18 points to power the Mustangs past the Trojans.
 
Alyson Kunzi paced Pahrump Valley with 16 points.
BOYS
 
Lutheran South (Texas) 79, Mountain View 41 — At Mountain View, Lutheran South used a 21-4 second-quarter run to open up a 35-14 halftime lead on its way to a win over the Saints.

Alex Capozzoli had 11 points and eight rebounds, and Matt Larson added 10 points and 10 rebounds for Mountain View.

Ben Wallace paced the Pioneers with 20 points.

Orange Lutheran (Calif.) 62, Faith Lutheran 38 — At Orange, Calif., Gabe York scored 19 points, and Orange Lutheran jumped out to a 20-8 first-quarter lead en route to a win over the Crusaders.

Brett Lubbe led Faith Lutheran with 18 points.
