ROUNDUP: Gorman girls stun regionally-ranked team

Aaryn Ellenberg poured in 32 points Thursday morning as Bishop Gorman’s girls opened their season with a 47-35 win over Regis Jesuit (Colo.) in the La Jolla (Calif.) Country Day Sweet 16 Invitational.

Regis Jesuit is ranked No. 8 in the West Region by USA Today.

Ellenberg hit three 3-pointers and scored 18 points in the second half to help the Gaels pull away. If not for a three-point play by Regis Jesuit with one second remaining, Ellenberg would have scored as many points as the Raiders.

In their second game, the Gaels dropped a 72-45 decision to Modesto (Calif.) Christian.

Chelsie Pitt led Gorman with 16 points. Ellenberg added 11 for the Gaels, who made just 10 of 36 field-goal attempts.

Gorman tralied by 10 at the half and couldn’t recover.

Chaparral 62, Clark 39 — At Chaparral, Janae Neuville scored 18 points and Jacquie Ferguson 13 to help the Cowboys defeat the Chargers.

Katie Wright added 11 points for Chaparral, which pulled away with a 19-6 fourth-quarter run.

Taiah Murphy led Clark with 11 points.

Green Valley 83, Valley 36 — At Valley, Jazmine Jarvis scored 28 points and the Gators jumped out to a 30-10 first-quarter lead and went on to batter the Vikings.

Angelica Mack scored 17 points and Sarah Pickus 14 for Green Valley, which led 54-22 at halftime.

Christina Davis led Valley with 16 points.

Liberty 68, Canyon Springs 51 — At Liberty, Amanda Delgado scored 19 points, and the Patriots pulled away in the second half to down the Pioneers.

Daynice Cochran added 14 points and Destiny Whitehead 12 for Liberty, which held a 30-25 halftime lead.

Kenosha Wright led the Pioneers with 12 points. Skotasia Thomas added 10 points for Canyon Springs.

Arbor View 47, Del Sol 34 — At Arbor View, Jena Valenzuela scored 17 points to help the Aggies down the Dragons.

Erika Lang added 14 points for Arbor View.

Amy Austin led Del Sol with 21 points.

Tech 61, Sunrise Mountain 31 — At Sunrise Mountain, the Roadrunners raced to a 36-13 halftime lead and downed the Miners.

Mesha Phillips scored 18 points, and Julie Harless added 14 for Tech.

Tekeyra Ingram had 11 points for the Miners.

Spanish Springs 46, Basic 40 — At Basic, the Cougars held off the Wolves.

Basic’s Michaela Thomas led all scorers with 14 points.

Churchill County 50, Faith Lutheran 37 — At Winnemucca, the Greenwave used a 17-6 fourth-quarter run to break away from the Crusaders in the Lowry Invitational.

Kelsey McCourt led Faith Lutheran with 21 points.

West Wendover 34, Carlin 13 — At Elko, Danika Sharp scored 24 points as the Wolverines opened the season with a win over the Railroaders in the Elko Tournament.

Adelson School 52, Mountain View JV 43 — At Adelson, the Lions used a 25-6 fourth-quarter spurt to overcome a 12-point deficit and beat Mountain View’s junior varsity team.

Elie Steinberg led Adelson with 19 points. Sueleika Blackwell had 15 points and Alexes Settle added 12.

Sara Pridgen led Mountain View with 29 points.
