Roundup: Centennial girls fall to nation’s No. 1 team

Riverdale (Tennessee) limited Centennial’s girls basketball team to 23 second-half points on Wednesday, and the Warriors earned a 71-60 win over the Bulldogs in the Tournament of Champions in Gilbert, Arizona.

Centennial led 37-33 at the half, but Riverdale, which is ranked No. 1 in the nation by USA Today, shut down Justice Ethridge in the second half.

Ethridge had 23 of her 24 points in the first half for the Bulldogs, ranked No. 5 nationally.

Eboni Walker added 13 points, and Ajanhai Phoumiphat scored 11 for Centennial.

Alasia Hayes led the Warriors with 17 points, and Alexis Whittington and Brinae Alexander each scored 16 for Riverdale.

Bonanza 48, Rancho Buena Vista (Calif.) 28 — At Mountain View, Kerianne Reilly scored 18 points to lead the Bengals to to the win in the Vegas Invitational.

Madeline Gonzalez added 11 points for Bonanza.

4A/3A girls state roundup: Legacy, Canyon Springs ousted

Legacy and Canyon Springs couldn’t keep up in the Class 4A girls basketball state semifinals. The Southern Region representatives in 3A also were eliminated.
