Meyers helps Skyhawk girls rally for win in Vegas Valley Invitational

Jessica Meyers scored all of her team-high 13 points in the second half Friday to help Silverado’s girls basketball team rally from a 29-17 deficit to beat Cheyenne, 60-52 in the opening round of bracket play in the Vegas Valley Invitational at Tarkanian Basketball Academy.

The Desert Shields took a 25-17 halftime lead, scored the first four points of the second half, and still had a 33-22 edge before Silverado went on a 20-4 run to grab the lead for good.

Brittany Loguidice added 11 points, and Nicole D’Arpa and Jasmyn Garcia each scored 10 for the Skyhawks, who will face Boulder City in a semifinal at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Lajuana Brown paced Cheyenne with 30 points, 17 of those in the first half.

Boulder City 39, Shadow Ridge 23 — Alyssa Ybarra led a balanced attack with 10 points, and the Eagles held the Mustangs to just five field goals on their way to the win.

Mallory Bird added eight points for Boulder City, which used a 16-1 run in the final minutes of the first half and the opening minutes of the second half to seal the outcome.

Vianne Perez had eight points for Shadow Ridge.

Canyon Springs 61, Desert Pines 20 — Pearl Paulo poured in 18 points as the Pioneers ran away from the Jaguars.

Cherise Beynon added 10 points for Canyon Springs, which will meet Rancho in a semifinal at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Leslie White led Desert Pines with seven points.

Rancho 19, Chaparral 16 — Darje Martin had six points as the Rams trudged to victory over the Cowboys.

Tichina Savoy had eight points for Chaparral, which made only 2 of 14 free throws.

Rancho 51, Silverado 49 — Jordon Williams’ basket with less than 20 seconds to play lifted the Rams past the Skyhawks in pool play.

Kanosha Gray had 16 points, and LaKissa Martin scored 14 for Rancho.

Loguidice paced Silverado with 10 points.

Canyon Springs 45, Boulder City 27 — Beynon poured in 15 of her game-high 23 points in the second half as the Pioneers broke a 21-21 halftime tie and cruised by the Eagles in pool play.

Karlee Koopman had 10 points for Boulder City.

Shadow Ridge 38, Desert Pines 29 — Sabriya Brooks came off the bench to score 11 points and lead the Mustangs by the Jaguars in pool play.

Cydney Myles had 10 points for Desert Pines.

Cheyenne 45, Chaparral 19 — Kayla Armstrong had all nine of her points in the first half, helping the Desert Shields grab a 20-10 halftime lead and cruise by the Cowboys in pool play.

Octavia Gray had eight points for Chaparral.
