GIRLS BASKETBALL: Washington, Gaels win Las Vegas Invitational

Madison Washington scored 15 points to lead host Bishop Gorman’s girls to the championship of the Las Vegas Invitational tournament Saturday with a 60-49 win over American Fork (Utah).

Raychel Stanley added 13 points, and Megan Jacobs scored 11 for the Gaels, who used a 15-7 third-quarter run to open a 48-38 lead.

The Gaels were the only team in the eight-team field to finish the tournament 4-0, defeating all out-of-state schools.

Taylor Moeaki led the Cavemen with 16 points.

Bishop Gorman 61, Maryknoll (Hawaii) 39 — At Gorman, Skylar Jackson had 14 points, and the Gaels used a 36-15 burst in the middle quarters to top the Spartans.

Jacobs added 10 points for Gorman.

Rhianne Omori and Lindsey Lee each scored nine points for Maryknoll.

Foothill 60, Lee (Texas) 44 — At Bishop Gorman, Taylor Turney had 22 points to lead the Falcons by the Rebels in the Las Vegas Invitational.

Bri Rosales added 10 points for Foothill, which built a 31-20 halftime lead.

Alaysha Green and Daya Stanford each had eight points to lead Lee.

Skyline (Utah) 47, Foothill 43 — At Bishop Gorman, Olivia Elliss had 14 points to help the Eagles edge the Falcons in the Las Vegas Invitational.

Shaylana Davis added 12 points for Skyline, which led 36-33 after three quarters and held on by making free throws in the fourth quarter.

Rae Burrell paced Foothill with 19 points.

Liberty 42, American Fork (Utah) 40 — At Bishop Gorman, Paris Strawther had 20 points and 10 rebounds to help the Patriots nip the Cavemen in the Las Vegas Invitational.

Moeaki led Amercian Fork with 15 points.

Spring Valley 59, Cimarron-Memorial 48 — At Cimarron, Kayla Harris scored 27 points to lead the Grizzlies by the Spartans.

Essence Booker added 10 points for Spring Valley, which made 22 of 50 free throws.

Shauntel Efferson had 14 points and eight rebounds, and Zaquae Downton added 13 points and 16 rebounds for Cimarron. Ashli Tyus added 10 points for the Spartans, who were 21 of 36 from the line.

Valley 49, Clark 42 — At Clark, Eimainei Thomas-Palmer and Hannah Geberyesus each scored 15 points to help the Vikings hold off the Chargers.

Karlicia Stroughter scored 22 points for Clark, which made 24 of 54 free throws.

Flagstaff (Ariz.) 50, Desert Oasis 40 — At Flagstaff, Ariz., the Eagles outscored the Diamondbacks 20-10 in the fourth quarter to pull out a win in the semifinals of the Pepsi Holiday Tournament.

Mikala Kirby led Desert Oasis with 17 points.

The Meadows 49, Laughlin 37 — At The Meadows, Bailey Gosse scored 20 points to help the Mustangs top the Cougars.

Delaney Gosse added 12 points, 10 steals and five assists for The Meadows.

Kayla Nelson led Laughlin with 15 points.

White Pine 45, Lake Mead 17 — At Lake Mead, Ashlyn Huntington scored 14 points, and the Bobcats outscored the Eagles 23-4 in the second half en route to the win.

Savannah Schmidt had 12 points for Lake Mead.

Lincoln County 55, Mountain View 35 — At Mountain View, Kristal Jackson led a balanced attack with 11 points as the Lynx topped the Saints.

Tanji Tibbitts had 10 points for Lincoln County.

Legacy and Canyon Springs couldn’t keep up in the Class 4A girls basketball state semifinals. The Southern Region representatives in 3A also were eliminated.
