GIRLS BASKETBALL: Moore, Smith key Spartans’ rally over Legacy

Tasia Moore and Niara Smith each had seven points in the fourth quarter Wednesday to help Cimarron-Memorial's girls basketball team rally for a 48-42 win at Legacy.

Moore finished with 22 points, and Smith scored 16 for the Spartans, who outscored Legacy 20-10 in the fourth quarter.

C'Aree Stevenson scored 16 points for the Longhorns.

Palo Verde 68, Canyon Springs 53 — At Canyon Springs, Paulina Silcox scored 23 points, and the Panthers raced to a 23-7 first quarter lead and went on to beat the Pioneers.

Brooklyn Cruz supplied 21 points for Palo Verde.

Aleza Bell scored 12 points, and teammate Alexia Thrower added 11 points for Canyon Springs.

Valley 66, Basic 53 — At Basic, Eimainei Thomas-Palmer had 15 points to help spark the Vikings' win over the Wolves.

Almond Slayton added 12 points for Valley, which trailed 12-11 after one quarter but led 25-20 at halftime.

Lauren Powell had 12 points, and Happy Butler scored 10 for Basic.

4A/3A girls state roundup: Legacy, Canyon Springs ousted

Legacy and Canyon Springs couldn’t keep up in the Class 4A girls basketball state semifinals. The Southern Region representatives in 3A also were eliminated.
