GIRLS BASKETBALL: Evans directs Pirates’ furious comeback over Miners

Summer Evans’ tie-breaking layup with seven seconds left Wednesday capped a furious comeback as Moapa Valley’s girls basketball team nipped visiting Sunrise Mountain, 49-47.

Evans had 15 points, and Makayla Jackson scored 10 for the Pirates, who trailed 36-24 after three quarters.

Tayaa Pratt had 15 points, and Nina Carpenter scored 12 for the Miners.

Legacy 45, Durango 42 — At Legacy, TaEha Pankey was 5-for-5 from the free-throw line in the last 40 seconds, and the Longhorns used a 24-9 fourth-quarter run to rally past the Trailblazers.

Otilia Price added 15 rebounds for Legacy, which trailed 33-21 after three quarters. The Longhorns were 13 of 17 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter to gain the lead.

Brittany Romo had 24 points, and Aylin Ponce scored 14 for Durango.

Mojave 58, Western 50 — At Western, Charleea Armstrong scored eight of her game-high 25 points in the final 4:20 to lift the Rattlers over the Warriors.

Western opened the fourth quarter on a 9-0 run to tie the game at 45, but Armstrong hit a pair of quick baskets to give Mojave control.

RayEna Rael added 23 points for Mojave. Armstrong and Rael combined for all 13 of the Rattlers’ points in the fourth quarter, and all came in the final 4:20.

Capricia Pierce and Destiny Gonzalez each scored 19 points for the Warriors, who got 11 points from Lanisha Walker.

Cheyenne 36, Sierra Vista 32 — At Cheyenne, Bria Buchanan had 18 points and 16 rebounds as the Desert Shields rallied by the Mountain Lions.

Buchanan had five points in the fourth quarter to help Cheyenne battle back from a 29-25 deficit.

Kelsey Jimenez led Sierra Vista with 15 points.

Chaparral 56, Desert Pines 43 — At Desert Pines, Taij Criss-Felton and Marcia Hawkins each scored 17 points to power the Cowboys past the Jaguars.

Alexis Vanstory added 12 points for Chaparral, which led 30-21 at the half.

Jordan Bailey scored 17 points, and Chrystian Myles added 13 points for Desert Pines, which got 19 rebounds See’Airrah Evans-Collins.

Boulder City 39, Virgin Valley 30 — At Boulder City, Alyssa Ybarra had 13 points, six rebounds and five assists to help the Eagles to a win over the Bulldogs.

Samantha Hanson and Julia Worrall each added eight points for Boulder City.

Spencer Green and Emma Barnum scored eight points apiece to lead Virgin Valley.

Spring Valley 56, Pahrump Valley 38 — At Pahrump, Essence Booker had 17 points to help the Grizzlies cruise by the Trojans.

Kayla Harris scored 14 for Spring Valley, which used a 21-5 third-quarter run to put the game away.

Alyssa Murphy poured in 19 points for Pahrump.

Bishop Gorman 72, Shadow Ridge 34 — At Gorman, Raychel Stanley led three double-figure scorers with 19 points as the Gaels routed the Mustangs.

Madison Washington and Megan Jacobs each scored 10 points for Gorman, which led 42-9 at halftime.

Assana King had nine points to lead Shadow Ridge.

Faith Lutheran 64, Clark 28 — At Faith Lutheran, Haley Vinson scored 20 points to guide the Crusaders to victory over the Chargers.

Madison Bocobo added 13 points for Faith Lutheran, which had 12 total scorers.

Bobbi Floyd led Clark with 20 points.

Del Sol 44, Tech 15 — At Del Sol, Alina Marruffo had 21 points as the Dragons ran away from the Roadrunners.

Azhwalaee Oliver added 10 points and 10 steals for Del Sol.

Clarissa Szluha led Tech with seven points.
