GIRLS BASKETBALL: Centennial routs Mater Dei in battle of nationally-ranked teams

Samantha Thomas had 24 points and seven rebounds Friday to lead Centennial's girls basketball team to a 70-45 win over host Mater Dei (California) in a battle of nationally-ranked teams at the Nike Extravaganza in Santa Ana, California.

Justice Ethridge added 20 points for the Bulldogs (24-1), ranked No. 6 nationally by USA Today.

Tanjanae Wells had 10 points for Centennial, which made 10 of 21 3-pointers and broke open a game that was tied at 18 after one quarter.

The Bulldogs led 52-34 after three quarters and bumped the margin to as much as 30 in the fourth quarter against the 12th-ranked Monarchs (23-3).

Ally Rosenblum led Mater Dei with 13 points and 12 rebounds.

Spring Valley 65, Cheyenne 44 — At Spring Valley, Kayla Harris had 14 points, six rebounds and eight steals as the Grizzlies clinched the Division I-A Sunset League title with a win over the Desert Shields.

Essence Booker added 13 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and five steals, and Ella Zanders scored 12 points for Spring Valley.

Koreyl Godbolt led Cheyenne with 14 points, and teammate Da'Vione Lomax added 13 points.

Eldorado 39, Shadow Ridge 34 — At Shadow Ridge, DeAsia Walker scored 17 points to lead the Sundevils by the Mustangs.

Daria Lomasney added nine points for Eldorado, which led 21-17 at halftime.

Alexa Martins led Shadow Ridge with 13 points.

Arbor View 53, Las Vegas 43 — At Las Vegas, Alaysia Reed had 16 points to lead the Aggies over the Wildcats.

Kera Farmer added 11 points for Arbor View, which led 30-21 at the half.

Kiona Jolley led Las Vegas with 14 points. Bianca Matlock added 10 points for the Wildcats, who pulled within four with 2:30 to play but couldn't complete the comeback.

Palo Verde 73, Mojave 41 — At Mojave, Brooklyn Cruz scored 21 points as the Panthers routed the Rattlers.

Paulina Silcox added 18 points, and Kailah Burton had 12 points for Palo Verde, which led 39-19 at halftime.

Savannah Blanchard-Davis led Mojave with 17 points, and teammate Darria Gray scored 12 points.

Moapa Valley 47, Mountain View 15 — At Overton, Madison Bush scored eight points as the Pirates rolled over the Saints.

Tapanga Durham added seven points for Moapa Valley, which outscored Mountain View, 30-7 in the middle quarters.

Nia Van Kempen led Mountain View with six points.

Calvary Chapel 51, Lake Mead 36 — At Calvary Chapel, Malia Lee had 27 points to power the Lions by the Eagles.

Jacea Tillman led Lake Mead with 11 points.

Pahranagat Valley 27, Beaver Dam 24 — At Littlefield, Ariz., Allyse Frehner scored nine points as the Panthers rallied by the Diamondbacks and clinched the No. 2 seed for the Division IV Southern League playoffs.

Frehner hit three free throws with 3:02 to go to tie the game at 24-all, then hit a 3-pointer to give the Panthers the lead.

Madalyn Taylor added eight points for Pahranagat Valley, which trailed 24-16 after three quarters but held Beaver Dam scoreless in the fourth.

Jailene Hernandez led Beaver Dam with 14 points.

Agassi Prep 74, The Meadows 29 — At The Meadows, Destiny Rover scored 22 points to help the Stars rout the Mustangs.

Sharmayne Finley added 20 points, and Denise Parker scored 10 for the Stars, who led 41-14 at the half.

Rachel Siegel led The Meadows with 14 points and 10 rebounds, and teammate Marcella Peek grabbed 12 rebounds.

Lincoln County 44, Needles 27 — At Panaca, Hannah Hafen had 12 points, six rebounds and two steals to lead the Lynx by the Mustangs.

Kailey Kelley added nine points and four rebounds for Lincoln County, which led 24-15 at halftime.

Jayne Antone led Needles with 10 points.

Pahrump Valley 43, Bonanza 39 — At Bonanza, the Trojans edged the Bengals.

Beatty 38, Sandy Valley 21 — At Sandy Valley, the Hornets led only 14-13 at the half before pulling away from the Sidewinders.
