Word of Life boys basketball forfeits four league games

Word of Life’s boys basketball team forfeited nine games, including four Division IV Southern League games, on Wednesday due to the use of an ineligible player.

The Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association investigated a complaint about Word of Life and determined one player to be ineligible due to transfer rules. That player competed in 10 of the team’s first 13 games, helping the Eagles to a 10-3 record to start the year.

The ineligible player did not participate in Word of Life’s 67-49 win over Round Mountain on Jan. 30, or the 54-37 victory over Sandy Valley on Tuesday, so those wins stand. But each of the Eagles’ other wins were forfeited.

Word of Life (3-12 overall, 2-5 Southern) fell from second in the league into a tie for seventh. The top six teams qualify for the league playoffs.
