Roundup: Noah Taitz leads Gorman to season-opening win

Noah Taitz scored a game-high 26 points, and Jamal Bey added 18 points and eight rebounds to help Bishop Gorman’s boys basketball team to a 72-47 victory over Galena in the Gaels’ season debut Wednesday in the Wild West Shootout in Reno.

D.J. Howe had seven points for Gorman, which led 36-19 at halftime.

Moses Wood led the Grizzlies with 22 points.

Bonanza 69, Pahrump Valley 52 — At Bonanza, Trent Savage and John Frazier each scored 13 points to power the Bengals past the Trojans.

Chase Hafen added 12 points, and Kendell Burrell scored 11 for Bonanza.

Antonio Fortin led all scorers with 35 points for Pahrump Valley.

Sunrise Mountain 99, Word of Life 67 — At Sunrise Mountain, Steven Adeyemi scored 17 points, and Anthony Proby-Jenson added 16 points as the Miners defeated the Eagles.

Tyree Hayes scored 13 points, and Matt Glenn added 12 points for Sunrise Mountain, which ourscored Word of Life 53-26 over the middle quarters.

Jared House scored a game-high 29 points to pace Word of Life, which got 18 points from Jaiden Stuckey.

Green Valley 63, Valley 44 — At Green Valley, Antoine Hines had 18 points, and Zachary Hammer scored 13 as the Gators upended the Vikings.

Michael Jackson added 12 points for Green Valley, which tied the game at 19 at halftime after trailing 12-7 after one quarter.

Bryce Jones led Valley with 11 points, and teammate Oscar Burns scored eight.

Spring Creek 75, Moapa Valley 67 — At Overton, Levi Yaunick had 24 points, and Ryan Miner scored 15 as the Spartans defeated the Pirates.

Jake Oliphant tallied 14 points, and Thomas Ledford had 10 points for Spring Creek, which led 42-25 at halftime.

Derek Reese led Moapa Valley with 19 points, and teammate Nathaniel Thompson scored 18.

Mountain View 63, Beaver Dam 10 — At Mountain View, Tyrell Brooks had 22 points, including five 3-pointers, and eight rebounds as the Saints routed the Diamondbacks.

Terrence Brooks added 17 points and seven assists, and Michael Faso chipped in eight points for Mountain View.
