ROUNDUP: Late push drives DeMatha past Gorman boys in tourney title game

DeMatha (Md.) used a 15-3 run in the third quarter to take control on the way to a 58-52 victory over Bishop Gorman in the championship game of the Les Schwab Invitational in Hillsboro, Ore.

Gorman led 41-36 late in the third quarter before the DeMatha run.

Jerami Grant scored 14 points to lead DeMatha.

Shabazz Muhammad, who made the all-tournament team, had 23 points and 10 rebounds to pace Gorman. Rosco Allen added 12 points for the Gaels.

Canyon Springs 60, Francis Parker (Calif.) 47 — At Carlsbad, Calif., Jared Brandon had 23 points to lead the Pioneers to third place in the American Division of the Holiday Classic.

Michael Thompson added 14 points, and Chris Willis scored 13 for Canyon Springs.

Dalante Dunklin had 15 points for Francis Parker.

Sierra Vista 72, American Fork (Utah) 60 — At Gillette, Wyo., Maiscei Grier had 21 points, and Donovan Williams added 19 points and nine rebounds to lead the Mountain Lions past the Cavemen for third place in the Energy Classic.

Gary Jacobs and Viko Noma’aea each added 10 points, and Xavier Rogers had eight assists.

Noma’aea had seven assists and three steals for Sierra Vista, which led by as much as 25 in the fourth quarter.

Moapa Valley 51, Grantsville (Utah) 50 — At Cedar City, Utah, Casen Lewis’ 3-pointer with seven seconds to play lifted the Pirates past the Cowboys.

Moapa Valley trailed 50-46 with 30 seconds to play before Josh Thompson hit a pair of free throws.

After a Grantsville turnover, Lewis drained the 3-pointer, and Grantsville’s last-second heave was off the mark.

Thompson finished with 18 points, and Hayden Cooper scored 14 for Moapa Valley.

Findlay Prep 70, O’Gorman Catholic (S.D.) 37 — At Mitchell, S.D., Myck Kabongo had 16 points and seven assists as the Pilots snapped O’Gorman’s 21-game winning streak.

Nick Johnson had 17 points, and Nigel Goss and Winston Shepard each scored 10 points for Findlay Prep, which led 29-20 at the half.

Shepard had 11 rebounds, and Goss added nine rebounds for the Pilots.

Diamond Bar (Calif.) 72, Green Valley 69 — At El Cajon, Calif., Diamond Bar outlasted the Gators in overtime in the Braves Basketball Classic.

Earl Thompson led Green Valley with 19 points. Michael Thornton added 17 points, and Keiannte Wilkins scored 13 for the Gators, who got 11 rebounds from Brandon Hoisington.

Cedar (Utah) 56, Virgin Valley 34 — At Cedar City, Utah, Chance Bearnsen scored 18 points to give the Redmen a win over the Bulldogs in the Steve Hodson Classic.

Brandon Cohen and Cameron Jensen each had 10 points for Virgin Valley, which trailed 38-19 at the half.
