RECRUITING: Desert Pines’ Abdullah commits to UNR

Desert Pines junior small forward Trevon Abdullah gave an oral commitment to UNR on Thursday during an unofficial visit to the school.

The 6-foot-5-inch Abdullah, who helped the Jaguars reach the Division I-A state title game last season, made the announcement on Twitter. His commitment is nonbinding, and he cannot sign a letter of intent until November 2016.

Abdullah averaged 15.8 points and a team-high 10 rebounds as a sophomore and was named to the Division I-A All-Southern Region first team.

Abdullah is rated a three-star recruit by ESPN.com and is the first player from the class of 2017 to commit to first-year UNR coach Eric Musselman. He had scholarship offers from more than 15 schools, including Mountain West members Colorado State, Fresno State and Utah State.
