Gorman boys roll to victory in Beach Ball Classic third-place game

Shabazz Muhammad had 17 points in the first 12 minutes Saturday and finished with 32 points and nine rebounds to lead Bishop Gorman's boys basketball team to an 84-51 win over Whitney Young (Ill.) in the third-place game of the Beach Ball Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Muhammad was 12 of 17 from the field in the game, leading a Gaels' offense that made nearly 60 percent of its shots (31 of 53).

Muhammad tallied 110 points in the tournament, just four shy of the record for a four-game Beach Ball Classic. The three-game tournament record is 118 points, held by Mike Bibby, now a Miami Heat guard. Kobe Bryant scored 117 points in a three-game tournament.

Rosco Allen came off the bench to add 17 points and seven rebounds for Gorman (7-3), which had only four turnovers in the game. Demetris Morant had 11 points and a pair of blocked shots, giving him 15 blocks in the tournament.

Miles Reynolds led the Dolphins with 11 points, and teammate Jahlil Okafor had 10 points and seven rebounds. The Dolphins were 6 of 9 on 3-pointers in the first half and still trailed 42-25 at halftime.
