Amir Garrett had 15 points and seven rebounds to lead the Findlay Prep basketball team to a 76-50 rout of Newark East Side (N.J.) on the final day of the Primetime Shootout in Union, N.J., on Sunday.
Garrett, a senior forward who has signed with St. John’s, was named Player of the Game by tournament officials. Nigel Williams-Goss had 13 points for Findlay Prep, and teammates Anthony Bennett (12), Nick Johnson (10) and Landen Lucas (10) also scored in double figures.
The Pilots (25-3), who are ranked No. 7 in the nation by USA Today, jumped to a 19-5 first-quarter lead and never trailed.
Findlay Prep made 22 of 25 free throws.
Pilots coach Michael Peck was glad to see his team bounce back from a 63-37 loss to Montrose Christian (Md.) on Saturday by playing strong defense.
“Defensively, we got off to a great start,” he said. “It was good to wash that loss off from Saturday.”
Tariq Carey led East Side with 22 points.
