Centennial’s Troy Brown helps USA reach semifinals in U17 World Championships

Centennial’s Troy Brown had 11 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals Thursday as the USA Men’s U17 basketball team defeated South Korea 133-81 in the quarterfinals of the FIBA World Championships in Zaragoza, Spain.

Brown shot 4-for-5 from the field, including 2-for-3 on 3-pointers in 19 minutes. He made his first four shots of the game.

Former Findlay Prep guard Markus Howard added seven points on 3 of 6 shooting. Howard also had three rebounds and three assists for the USA, which used a 39-15 second quarter to take a 65-32 lead into the half.

Teammate Collin Sexton led all scorers with 24 points, and Kevin Knox II scored 17 for Team USA.

The USA shot 62.8 percent from the field, while limiting South Korea to 39.8 percent.

The USA will meet Lithuania in the semifinals on Friday. A time has yet to be determined.

Turkey and Spain face off in the other medal semifinal.
