BOYS BASKETBALL: Burnside nets winner to lift Virgin Valley by Sunrise Mountain

Cody Burnside hit the tiebreaking layup with 16 seconds left Monday to lift Virgin Valley’s boys basketball team to a 47-45 win over visiting Sunrise Mountain.

Burnside finished with 19 points and eight rebounds, and Zach Barnum added 12 points for the Bulldogs.

Damon Heard scored 12 points, and William Adams had 10 points for the Miners, who missed a potential game-winning 3-pointer in the closing seconds.

Sierra Vista 45, Spring Valley 40 — At Sierra Vista, Randal Grimes scored 15 points, including the go-ahead shot with 20 seconds left, to lead the Mountain Lions past the Grizzlies.

After Grimes’ basket, the Grizzlies committed a turnover, and Sierra Vista went 3-for-4 from the free-throw line to close the game. Maka Ellis added 11 points for the Mountain Lions.

Jalen Cannon scored 14 points for Spring Valley.

Bishop Gorman 71, Palo Verde 57 — At Gorman, Chase Jeter scored 23 points and pulled down 14 rebounds to lead the Gaels past the Panthers.

Stephen Zimmerman added 22 points and 11 rebounds, and Zach Collins had 11 rebounds for Gorman, which pulled away after entering the fourth quarter tied at 47-47.

Grant Dressler scored 21 points, and Taylor Miller had 19 points for Palo Verde.

Boulder City 47, Moapa Valley 43 — At Overton, Austin Newby scored 15 points as the Eagles held off the Pirates.

Brooks Roe scored eight points for Boulder City, which led 38-27 after three quarters.

Koby Frei led Moapa Valley with 12 points.

Legacy 61, Shadow Ridge 54 — At Legacy, Dontre Avery and Brody Olenslager each scored 14 points as the Longhorns rallied by the Mustangs.

Shakir Arrey added 13 points, and Jacob Rainey scored 10 for Legacy, which trailed 43-41 after three quarters but grabbed the lead thanks to a 7-0 run to start the fourth quarter.

Kevin Branch had 18 points, and Brett Meci scored 12 for Shadow Ridge.

Desert Pines 72, Del Sol 62 — At Desert Pines, Capri Uzan scored 24 points to lead the Jaguars past the Dragons.

Trevon Abdullah added 15 points and 11 rebounds, and Jalen Graves had 12 points and 12 rebounds for Desert Pines, which led only 49-47 after three quarters. Coby Myles had 11 points, seven assists and six steals for Desert Pines.

JonRoss Juhas led Del Sol with 16 points. Noah Spearman added 14 points, and Brian Greer scored 11 for the Dragons.

Faith Lutheran 79, Western 59 — At Western, Zach Friel scored 15 points to help the Crusaders past the Warriors.

John Molchon scored 14 points, and Elijah Kothe added 12 points for Faith Lutheran, which got 10 points apiece from Tyler Mahan and Bryce Neagle.

John Swayzer and Zamond Washington each scored 18 points to lead Western. Wyatt Rozea added 10 points for the Warriors.

Chaparral 63, Tech 24 — At Tech, Samuel Porras and Marc Silas led a balanced attack with nine points each as the Cowboys routed the Roadrunners.

Edgar Ramirez added eight points for Chaparral, which used a 32-7 second-quarter burst to pull away.

Crawford Linden led Tech with nine points.

Cheyenne 61, Pahrump Valley 30 — At Cheyenne, Ulises Santillan had 14 points, nine rebounds and three assists to help the Desert Shields roll past the Trojans.

Bruce Gaitor added eight points and seven rebounds for Cheyenne.

Uriel Ramberg-Wiley led Pahrump with 15 points.
