Top players: G Nathaniel Thompson (Sr.), G Trey Jones (Sr.), F Derek Reese (Jr.)

Outlook: Thompson averaged 14 points and 5.1 rebounds per game, and Jones chipped in 9 ppg and 2.4 assists per game for the Pirates last season.

They’re two of only three returnees for Moapa Valley.

“With a very young team, we are looking to surprise people this year,” Larsen said. “We have a lot of talented kids but we have not played together, so we need to use the preseason to find our chemistry.

“By the end of the year, we hope to be competing for a playoff position.”
