Sunset Region: Cimarron-Memorial upsets Bishop Gorman

Lasith Narasinghe went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs on Tuesday as Cimarron-Memorial’s baseball team upset host Bishop Gorman 8-4 in the opening round of the Sunset Region tournament.

Seth Hoffman was 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs, and Zach Culver was 1-for-2 with two RBIs for the Spartans (21-11). Cimarron took a 4-3 lead into the sixth before scoring four runs in the top of the sixth inning.

The Spartans play at Centennial (25-7) at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

Dutch Landis was 3-for-4 with a home run, a double and two RBIs, and John Gaughan was 2-for-4 with an RBI for Gorman (23-8), which hosts Durango (12-19-1) in an elimination game at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

Desert Oasis 3, Arbor View 2 — At Desert Oasis, Aaron Roberts singled home Jordan DeMarce with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to give the Diamondbacks the win over the Aggies.

Chaison Miklich pitched two scoreless innings of relief with three strikeouts to get the win.

Arbor View took a 2-0 lead on a two-run homer by Austin Pfeifer in the top of the seventh. But Parker Schmidt’s two-run double in the bottom of the seventh forced extra innings.

Cole Schaefer was 4-for-4 with two doubles, and Schmidt went 3-for-5 for Desert Oasis. Roberts finished 2-for-5. Diamondbacks starter Josh Sharman allowed five hits and struck out six in seven innings.

Pfeifer started on the mound and allowed two runs on eight hits in seven innings for the Aggies. Pfeifer struck out seven with three walks.

Desert Oasis (30-3) hosts Palo Verde (24-8) at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

Arbor View (19-12-1) plays at Spring Valley (18-12) in an elimination game, also at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

Palo Verde 6, Spring Valley 0 — At Palo Verde, Jaret Godman struck out 10 Spring Valley hitters and limited the Grizzlies two two hits to claim the victory.

The Panthers took an early lead after leadoff hitter Nate Bartlett singled and took second and third on consecutive wild pitches. Peyton Cole brought Barrett home with in with a sacrifice fly.

In the third, Bartlett again led off with a single and scored on Jacob Godman’s double.

That was all the scoring Jaret Godman needed, as no Grizzlies hitter reached second base.

Noah Williamson’s three run homer extended the lead to 5-0, and Cole hit a solo homer for the final margin.

Centennial 6, Durango 0 — At Centennial, Zack Simon tossed a three-hitter and struck out eight to lift the Bulldogs by the Trailblazers.

Zachary Hare’s two-run home run keyed a five-run sixth inning for Centennial. Mike Jones was 1-for-3 with two RBIs, and Kris Bow went 1-for-3 with an RBI for the Bulldogs.

Jacob Bavaro was 1-for-3 with a double for Durango.
