Sunrise Region: Coronado routs top-seeded Rancho

Boston Mabeus went 4-for-5 with two doubles, a home run, four runs and five RBIs Wednesday as Coronado’s baseball team earned a 21-6 road win over top-seeded Rancho in the Sunrise Region baseball tournament.

Braeden Ewing tripled twice and drove in three runs for Coronado, which scored eight runs in the top of the first.

Cristian Herrera singled, doubled and drove in five runs, and Ethan Stephens went 4-for-5 with four RBIs for Coronado (21-10), which led 15-4 after three innings.

Jimmy Gamboa hit a two-run homer, and Joey Walls added a solo shot for Rancho (26-7).

Coronado plays at Basic (28-5) in the winners’ bracket final at 4 p.m. on Thursday. The Rams host Foothill (17-14) in an elimination game at 4 p.m. Thursday.

Basic 13, Green Valley 1 — At Basic, Jesse Fonteboa tossed a five-inning five-hitter as the Wolves topped the Gators.

Zach Hose went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs for Basic, which had 15 hits. Dominik Tavares was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs, and Nick Thompson, Trace Evans, and Garrett Giles each supplied two hits for the Wolves.

Garrett Nelson smacked a solo home run, and Callan Hermansen had two hits to lead Green Valley (19-12), which hosts Liberty (17-14) in an elimination game at 4 p.m. on Thursday.

Liberty 5, Silverado 3 — At Liberty, James Katona went 1-for-2 with a home run and two RBIs as the Patriots built an early 4-0 lead and held off the Skyhawks in an elimination game.

Logan Coons was 1-for-2 with a triple, two runs and two RBIs for Liberty, which led 4-0 after two innings.

Caleb Hubbard was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, and Blake Zorne went 2-for-3 with an RBI for Silverado (11-19-1).

Foothill 10, Las Vegas 0 — At Foothill, Kelton Lachelt tossed a five-inning three-hitter and struck out four to lead the Falcons by the Wildcats in an elimination game.

Chase Parenteau was 2-for-3 with a triple, a double, two runs and an RBI for Foothill. Gage Streit was 2-for-2 with a run and two RBIs, and Andrew Hauck was 2-for-4 with a solo home run for the Falcons, who scored eight runs in the fifth inning to end the game.

Jake Perales was 2-for-3 with an RBI for Foothill.

Las Vegas finished (16-15).
