Roundup: John Gaughan puts out fire as Gorman escapes Durango

Bishop Gorman’s John Gaughan came in with the tying run on third base and one out in the seventh inning and induced a groundout and a strikeout to record the save and help the Gaels’ baseball team stave off visiting Durango on Tuesday, 5-4.

Durango trailed 5-2 going to the seventh, but Justin Lucas’ two-run homer brought the game within one.

Max Weckel homered for the Gaels, Carson Wells doubled, and Christian Lamar had two RBIs.

Duke Pahukoa homered for the Trailblazers, and Renae Lara had a double.

Arbor View 6, Shadow Ridge 2 — At Arbor View, Austin Pfeifer struck out 12 over six strong innings to earn the win and hit a home run to power the Aggies over the Mustangs.

Jesse Pierce hit a three-run homer in the fourth, and struck out two in the seventh for the Aggies. Teammate Deangelo Smith had two RBIs.

Brandon Tressler doubled and scored for the Mustangs.

Cimarron-Memorial 2, Centennial 1 — At Cimarron, Jack Kannon fired a complete game and struck out nine in the Spartans’ victory over the Bulldogs.

Trevor Doyle had a double and an RBI for the Spartans, and Zach Culver and Elie Kligman scored.

Garrett Holden was 3-for-3 with an RBI for the Bulldogs, who left six on base.

Sierra Vista 8, Clark 0 — At Sierra Vista, Daymien Yohner spun a four-hit shutout with 13 strikeouts to power the Mountain Lions over the Chargers.

Yohner allowed four hits and walked one. He set down the first seven batters he faced, and struck out the last two hitters of the game.

Cooper Kitrel tripled and had two RBIs for the Mountain Lions, and Alex Chavira had a double, three RBIs and two runs, and Tyler MacIntyre had a double and two RBIs.

Basic 4, Foothill 1 — At Basic, C.J. Dornak fired a three-hitter with nine strikeouts and no earned runs as the Wolves got by the Falcons.

Garrett Giles was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and teammate John Howard Bobo supplied a hit, a run and a walk for Basic.

Kelton Lachelt had a single and a run to pace Foothill.

Coronado 6, Liberty 2 — At Liberty, Braeden Ewing hit a three-run homer, and Cristian Herrera hit a two-run homer, both in the first inning, as the Cougars topped the Patriots.

Taylor Darden pitched four shutout innings in relief to earn the win for Coronado.

Logan Coons went 2-for-3 for the Patriots.

Spring Valley 10, Bonanza 0 — At Spring Valley, Michael Marraro was 3-for-3 with five RBIs to lift the Grizzlies over Bengals in six innings.

Chase Rodriguez homered for the Grizzlies, and Kade Higgins was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Donovan Souder threw 5⅔ shutout innings for the Grizzlies.

Faith Lutheran 14, Legacy 5 — At Legacy, Sagan Gronauer tripled and knocked in three as the Crusaders beat the Longhorns.

Lucas Dockery and Carson Bonus each doubled for the Crusaders.

Aaron Lopez and Fabian Torres both had a double for Legacy.

Rancho 15, Green Valley 5 — At Green Valley, Chayse Baker was 3-for-3 with a home run, double and three RBIs to power the Rams over the Gators.

Edarian Williams homered and knocked in three for the Rams, Kagen Kennedy doubled and had three RBIs, and Joey Walls doubled and scored four times.

Donovan Gladney tripled for Rancho, Matthew Baughn doubled, and Jimmy Gamboa was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

Gavin Amelburu had a home run, double and four RBIs for the Gators, and Garrett Nelson hit a double.

Canyon Springs 14, Valley 4 — At Canyon Springs, Trevor Berkemeyer doubled and had three RBIs as the Pioneers took care of the Vikings in six innings.

Luis Osorio-Avila and Aiden Moriarty also doubled for the Pioneers.

Gatlin Hardiman had two RBIs for Valley.

Spring Mountain 30-16, Mountain View 11-7 — At Mountain View, Patrick Smith was 3-for-3 with five runs as the Golden Eagles blew by the Saints in five innings of the first game of a doubleheader.

Zack Wood had a double for the Saints.

In the second game, Devin Arnold had two doubles to help the Golden Eagles put away the Saints.

Hugo Fajardo doubled for the Saints.

The Meadows 18-21, Democracy Prep 1-0 — At The Meadows, Jerry Appelhans threw three no-hit innings and went 3-for-3 with two doubles, four runs, two RBIs to lead the Mustangs over the Blue Knights in four innings in the first game of a doubleheader.

Sam Kaplan had two doubles, four runs and four RBIs for the the Mustangs.

In the second game, the Mustangs scored 17 runs in the first inning to rout the Blue Knights.

Pahranagat Valley 17, Sunrise Mountain 6 — At Sunrise Mountain, the Panthers took care of the Miners.
