ROUNDUP: Howard proves difference as Cougars edge Wildcats

Cody Howard’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth inning provided the margin of victory as Coronado’s baseball team held off visiting Las Vegas, 3-2.

Howard went 1-for-2 with a home run and two RBIs.

Chandler Blanchard tossed a six-hitter with six strikeouts for the Cougars.

Jerome Buyndloss went 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead the Wildcats.

Green Valley 12, Rancho 2 — At Green Valley, Derrick Harmon went 2-for-2 with a home run and three RBIs as the Gators downed the Rams in six innings.

Evan Van Hoosier was 1-for-2 with three RBIs for Green Valley, which scored six runs in the fourth inning. Keaton Smith had two doubles for the Gators.

Arbor View 13, Pahrump Valley 3 — At Arbor View, P.J. Gonzalez went 3-for-4 with a double, three runs and three RBIs as the Aggies routed the Trojans in five innings.

Nate Stepna and Ryan Chen each went 2-for-3 with a run and two RBIs for the Aggies, who capped a six-run bottom of the fifth inning with Zach Quintana’s game-ending two-run home run.

Silverado 18, Chaparral 4 — At Silverado, Bryan Faucher went 2-for-2 with a three-run home run, two runs and four RBis as the Skyhawks made the most of eight hits and routed the Cowboys in five innings.

Beau DeLaPaz went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored for Chaparral.

Foothill 11, Valley 0 — At Foothill, Nick Cardinale tossed a five-inning shutout to lead the Falcons by the Vikings.

Cardinale allowed just two hits and struck out six.

Josh Smock went 2-for-2 with two RBIs, and Bligh Madris was 2-for-2 with an RBI for Foothill.

Bishop Gorman 8, Taylorsville (Utah) 1 — At Gorman, Jerrel Latham was 2-for-2 with a triple, a run and two RBIs to help the Gaels top the Warriors in the Bishop Gorman Desert Classic.

Cody Roper and Johnny Sewald combined on a five-hitter for the Gaels.

Faith Lutheran 4, Jordan (Utah) 1 — At Faith Lutheran, Eric Uleman went 1-for-3 with two RBIs as the Crusaders downed the Beetdiggers in the Bishop Gorman Desert Classic.

J.B. Eary went 1-for-3 with an RBI for Faith Lutheran.

Juan Diego (Utah) 15, Liberty 10 — At Liberty, Austin Geurtsen went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a triple to lead the Soaring Eagles over the Patriots in the Bishop Gorman Desert Classic.

Basic 11, Canyon Springs 0 — At Basic, Josh Gray went 2-for-2 with three runs scored as the Wolves blitzed the Pioneers in five innings.

Kyle Silva and Tyler Long both went 2-for-3 for Basic.

Centennial 13, Bonanza 3 — At Bonanza, Will Loucks hit a grand slam as the Bulldogs cruised past the Bengals in five innings.

Mike Yenkowski went 3-for-3 with a home run, a double, three RBIs and three runs scored for Centennial, and Austin Nelson was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run.

Robert Higgs for Bonanza went 2-for-2 with a run scored.

Tech 6, Desert Pines 4 — At Tech, winning pitcher Abel Martinez was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI to lead the Roadrunners by the Jaguars.

Martinez tossed six innings and struck out four.

Sunrise Mountain 4, Mojave 1 — At Sunrise Mountain, Austin Ganigan tossed a two-hitter, striking out six and allowing only an unearned run to lead the Miners past the Rattlers.

Del Sol 5, Moapa Valley 1 — At Overton, Brandon Hubbs went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI as the Dragons downed the Pirates.

Oscar Lopez went 1-for-1 with a two-run homer for Del Sol.

Del Sol’s Andrew Kirkman tossed a two-hitter, striking out eight.

Mountain View 8, Victor Valley Christian (Calif.) 7 — At Mountain View, Trevor Van Kempen drove in two runs with a double, and scored on two straight fielding errors in the top of the seventh inning to help the Saints hold off the Royals in the Spring Slam.

Van Kempen, who also picked up the save in one inning of relief, finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs, and winning pitcher Logan Christie was 2-for-4 with a double.

Korey Wood went 2-for-3 with three RBIs for Mountain View, which took an 8-5 lead into the bottom of the seventh before hanging on.

Brandt Hobbs was 2-for-3 with a double for Victor Valley.

Sandy Valley 23, Lake Mead 0 — At Mountain View, Jeremy Barnes went 4-for-4 with a double, a triple and five RBIs to help the Sidewinders blank the Eagles in the Spring Slam.

Westt Payne threw a two-hit shutout and smacked a double for Sandy Valley.

Indian Springs 16, Lake Mead 6 — At Mountain View, Devin Jackson pitched a two-hitter to help the Thunderbirds top the Eagles in the Spring Slam.

Bishop’s School (Calif.) 10, The Meadows 0 — At Mountain View, John Manhard threw a two-hit shutout to help the Knights down the Mustangs in six innings at the Spring Slam.

Kohl Simonds had a double and a three-run homer for Bishop’s School.

Spring Mountain 17, Trinity 1 — At Mountain Ridge Park, Tomoshea Edwards tossed a five-inning one-hitter and struck out 10 as the Eagles routed the Thunder.

Edwin Andrade went 4-for-4 with three RBIs for Spring Mountain.
