ROUNDUP: Gallo’s no-hitter lifts Gaels to Easter Classic title

Joey Gallo tossed a no-hitter in the championship game Saturday as Bishop Gorman’s baseball team captured its own Easter Classic with an 8-0 win over Gloucester Catholic (N.J.).

Gallo walked four, hit one batter and struck out nine. He faced four more than the minimum and threw 65 of 108 pitches for strikes.

The Gaels gave him more than enough run support with a four-run first inning and a three-run third.

Kenny Meimerstorf was 2-for-2 with a pair of solo home runs, a sacrifice fly and three RBIs for Gorman.

Jerrel Latham went 2-for-3 with four RBIs, and Mike Blasko was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles for the Gaels. Teammate A.J. VanMeetren went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Bishop Gorman 3, Bishop Manogue 1 — At Gorman, Adam Wozniak tossed a five-hitter with no walks and three strikeouts as the Gaels advanced to the title game by nipping the Miners.

Meimerstorf was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, and Latham went 2-for-3 for Gorman. Gallo added an RBI single for the Gaels.

Durango 5, Sierra Vista 4 — At Sierra Vista, Anthony Parry’s sacrifice fly to deep center field in the top of the eighth inning plated Brett Neighbors with the winning run as the Trailblazers held off the Mountain Lions.

Neighbors walked to lead off the eighth and moved to third on Jacob Dismont’s double.

Dismont was 3-for-4 with a home run, a double and two RBIs, and Vince Lombardi went 2-for-3 for Durango.

Cole Crosby was 2-for-3 for Sierra Vista.

Coronado 10, Spring Valley 2 — At Coronado, Dillon Fahr went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and two RBIs as the Cougars topped the Grizzlies.

Cody Howard was 2-for-4 with a triple, a run and three RBIs, and Kaleb Blyton went 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI for Coronado. Chandler Blanchard was 2-for-4 with two RBIs for the Cougars.

Robby Brewster was 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI to pace Spring Valley.
