ROUNDUP: Bishop Gorman wins, advances to semifinals of Arizona baseball tournament

Jeff Malm got a strikeout and a fly out with the potential tying run on base in the final inning Thursday as Bishop Gorman’s baseball team advanced to the semifinals of the Cherry Field Classic in Tucson (Ariz.) with a 14-12 win over Sabino (Ariz.).

The game was called after six innings due to a time limit.

Malm had a three-run double in the fifth inning as Gorman grabbed a 13-10 lead. The Gaels scored once in the top of the sixth before Sabino put two runs on the board and had two runners on base.

Malm finished 2-for-2 with a run and the three RBIs. Stephen Manthei, Neil Lawhorn and Joey Gallo each had two hits, including a home run, for Gorman. R.J. Santigate and Johnny Field added two hits apiece.

In its first game Thursday, Gorman downed Pomona (Colo.) 13-1 behind a three-hitter from Santigate.

Lawhorn went 3-for-3 with three doubles, two RBIs and a run.

Field was 2-for-4 with a home run, four RBIs and two runs, and Joey Rickard was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs.

Desert Oasis 14, Pahrump Valley 8 — At Desert Oasis, Dillon Krasn went 3-for-3 with a double, three runs and an RBI to lead the Diamondbacks past the Trojans.

Desert Oasis scored six runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 10-5 lead.

Danny Cazier was 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI for Pahrump.

Durango 7, Bonanza 3 — At Durango, Zach Hollenback went 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI to help the Trailblazers build a 7-0 lead after two innings and down Bonanza.

Danny Reynolds struck out nine in six innings to get the win for Durango.

Eldorado 13, Valley 1 — At Valley, Eric Larsen was 2-for-2 with a triple and three RBIs for the Sundevils in their win over the Vikings.

Chris Brown was 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs for Eldorado.

Winning pitcher Casey Roehr struck out seven in the five-inning outing.

Chaparral 4, Canyon Springs 3 — At Chaparral, the Pioneers committed two errors on one play, allowing Steve Colon to score from first base with the winning run.

Sal Cueller’s sacrifice bunt was fielded by Canyon Springs’ pitcher, who overthrew first base. The right fielder, backing up to play, threw to home but missed the catcher.

Spring Valley 21, Western 4 — At Spring Valley, Garrett Blair was 4-for-5 with three doubles in the Grizzlies win over the Warriors.

Spring Valley’s Aaron Blair was 3-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs, Chase LaComb was 3-for-4 with a triple, a double and three RBIs, and Cameron Cole was 2-for-2 with a home run, a double and two RBIs.

Legacy 7, Liberty 0 — At Legacy, Donald Glover was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for the Longhorns in their win over the Patriots

Chase Skinner was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for Legacy.

Zack Monticelli and Andres Ortiz combined on a three-hit shutout for the Longhorns.

Tech 14, Clark 4 — At Clark, Justin Vasquez was 4-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and three runs to lead the Roadrunners to a six-inning rout of the Chargers.

Edward Weist and Jeremy Croff each had three hits and two RBIs for Tech.

Travis Pullen was 3-for-4 with three doubles for Clark.

Silverado 14, Centennial 4 — At Silverado, Drew Robinson went 3-for-4 with four RBIs and one run, and Tanner Dushane went 3-for-3 with two runs and one RBI to lead the Skyhawks over the Bulldogs in six innings.

Sam Friend finished 2-for-2 for Centennial. 

Boulder City 10-2, Faith Lutheran 5-5 — At Boulder City, the Eagles and Crusaders split a doubleheader.

In the first game, Jack Lamarca (two RBIs) and Adam Eudy both went 2-for-3 to lead Boulder City to the win.

Alex Barnes and Bobby Burns had two hits each for Faith Lutheran, which left nine runners on base and committed four errors.

In the nightcap, the Crusaders scored three runs in the second inning to take a 4-0 lead. The Eagles committed three of their five errors in the frame.

Lamarca tripled for Boulder City, which left seven runners stranded.

Lake Mead 16, Henderson International 7 — At Henderson International, Doug Johnson’s two-out grand slam in the sixth inning opened up the flood gates as the Eagles pulled away from the Wolverines.

Lake Mead led 5-1 before Johnson’s slam, which keyed a six-run sixth. The Eagles added five runs in the seventh.

Zach Mullins was 3-for-3 with a two-run homer and three RBIs for Lake Mead.

Nick Powell led Henderson International, going 3-for-4 with a two-run homer and four RBIs. Logan Christie was 2-for-3 with a double for the Wolverines, and teammate Charles Pachas had a home run.

Niwot (Colo.) 14, Basic 8 — At Basic, the Wolves lost despite a 4-for-4 performance by Mike Feher.
