LIONS TOURNEY: Three-run ninth helps Gators outlast Otay Ranch

Green Valley’s baseball team scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning and held on for a 5-2 victory over Otay Ranch (Calif.) in the Lions Tournament in San Diego on Tuesday.

Braden Rogers led off the ninth with a double, then scored the go-ahead run on a fielder’s choice by Gabe Douglas. Cooper Manwarren scored on a squeeze bunt by Brett Harrison to give the Gators a 4-2 lead before Douglas came home on a double by Chad Whiteaker for the final margin.

Rogers and Whiteaker both went 2-for-4 for the Gators.

Green Valley starter Brett Haney yielded two runs on four hits in six innings with six strikeouts.

Arbor View 5, Mt. Carmel (Calif.) 2 — At San Diego, Tyler LeBaron threw a six-hitter with six strikeouts and no walks to lead the Aggies to the win.

Zach Quintana hit a solo home run for Arbor View.

Nevada Union (Calif.) 4, Desert Oasis 3 — At San Diego, Dustin Zeisler’s two-out single plated Chris Porter with the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth inning, and the Miners held on to beat the Diamondbacks.

Mike Maiello doubled and drove in a run for Desert Oasis.

Oceanside (Calif.) 1, Foothill 0 — At San Diego, Max Burdette scored on Aaron Seats’ groundout in the top of the second inning to give the Pirates the win over the Falcons.

Brandon Van Stone struck out five in a complete game for Foothill, and Tyler Morris was 2-for-3 for the Falcons.

Torrey Pines (Calif.) 7, Silverado 0 — At San Diego, Reed Mason fired a three-hitter with eight strikeouts and no walks as the Falcons blanked the Skyhawks.

Jack Mitchell went 3-for-3 with two RBIs for Torrey Pines.
