BASEBALL: Sotello, Pioneers hang on to beat Vikings

Sebastian Sotello lined a one-out double off the left-field fence to score Carlos Alcala in the top of the eighth, and the Canyon Springs baseball team held on for an 11-10 win at Valley on Tuesday.

Valley trailed 10-2, but took advantage of walks and errors to score three runs in the sixth and five in the seventh to tie the game.

After the Pioneers took the lead, pinch hitter Seth Miranda walked to lead off the bottom of the eighth, and eventually stole third with one out.

Canyon Springs’ second baseman made a diving catch into the outfield grass and fired to catcher Alcala to get Miranda at the plate for a double play to end the game.

Johnny Flores went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI for the Pioneers.

Geovanni Marrero-Pereznegron had two hits and three RBIs to pace the Vikings.

Chaparral 10, Sunrise Mountain 0 — At Chaparral, Mark O’Connor tossed a five-inning no-hitter to lead the Cowboys by the Miners.

O’Connor struck out 12, walked one and hit one batter.

Connor Jarvis was 2-for-3 with an RBI for Chaparral.

Bishop Gorman 10, Shadow Ridge 0 — At Gorman, Cadyn Grenier was 3-for-4 with a triple, a double, two runs and four RBIs as the Gaels topped the Mustangs in five innings.

Brandon Wulff went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and three RBIs, and Blake Sanchez was 3-for-3 with a solo home run for Gorman.

Alex Perron threw a two-hitter with five strikeouts and four walks to earn the victory.

Durango 4, Legacy 1 — At Legacy, Collin Marracco tossed a three-hitter to lead the Trailblazers by the Longhorns.

Duke Pahukoa went 2-for-3 and scored twice for Durango.

Donta Williams was 1-for-3 with a home run for Legacy.

Silverado 5, Palo Verde 3 — At Silverado, Vincent Taormina went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs, and Chase Cortez supplied two doubles and an RBI as the Skyhawks rallied past the Panthers.

Dillon Johnson was 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI for Silverado, and Alex Grafiada had two hits and an RBI for the Skyhawks, who trailed 3-1 after one inning before scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead.

Blake Porter hit a triple, and Will Hamilton and Mitchell Rathbun each had two hits for Palo Verde.

Green Valley 9, Cimarron-Memorial 4 — At Cimarron, Blake Inouye went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, and Jimmy Montiel was 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a double to lead the Gators by the Spartans.

A.J. Amelburu went 3-for-4, and Jarod Penniman was 2-for-3 with a double for Green Valley.

Cimarron’s Niko Decolati was 3-for-4, and Jeff Griffith went 2-for-2 with an RBI for the Spartans.

Moapa Valley 7, Del Sol 3 — At Del Sol, Anthony Cornwall smacked a three-run homer, and Riley Longman doubled twice and drove in two runs as the Pirates held off the Dragons.

Chaz Cornwall was 2-for-4 with a double for Moapa Valley, which scored four runs in the top of the sixth to break a 3-3 tie.

J.R. Redd picked up the win, striking out six in three innings of relief.

Tech 10, Desert Pines 0 — At Burkholder Park, Sebastian Fitzgerald tossed a four-hitter with six strikeouts and was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and two RBIs as the Roadrunners downed the Jaguars in five innings.

Alexis Acosta was 3-for-4 with a double and three runs, and Zach West was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Tech. Jalen Birch went 2-for-3 with two runs for the Roadrunners.

Boulder City 20, Virgin Valley 3 — At Mesquite, Austin Wishard was 2-for-2 with a double, four RBIs and two runs to help the Eagles rout the Bulldogs in five innings.

Peyton Koopman went 2-for-5 with a homer, two runs and three RBIs for Boulder City, which scored eight runs in the top of the first. Nolan Desantis was 2-for-4 with a double, three runs and two RBIs, and Zach Murphy went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and two RBIs for the Eagles.

Preston Van Diest and Jake Hubel each added two hits and four runs for Boulder City, which had 17 hits.

Mountain View 18, Lake Mead 2 — At Heritage Park, winning pitcher Josh Stanton went 3-for-3 with three runs, and Chase Ottofy was 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI to help the Saints top the Eagles in five innings.

Ian Locke went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs, and teammate Anthony Pollucci was 1-for-3 with two RBIs for Mountain View.

Hunter Harris was 1-for-2 with a triple and a run for Lake Mead.

Pahranagat Valley 15, Tonopah 3 — At Alamo, Jordan Cryts went 2-for-4 with a triple, a double, two runs and two RBIs to help the Panthers defeat the Muckers in five innings.

Tabor Maxwell was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Paden Higbee and Shawn Wadsworth each went 2-for-3 with an RBI for Pahranagat Valley, which scored 11 runs in the second inning.
