BASEBALL: Nelson, Wolves use big fifth inning to defeat Cougars

Ryne Nelson slugged a solo home run to highlight a six-run fifth inning, and Basic’s baseball team rallied to earn an 11-5 victory over host Coronado on Tuesday.

Cory Wills went 3-for-4 with two runs, and Logan Green and Isaac Perez each had a double for the Wolves, who trailed 5-1 after the fourth inning.

Coronado’s Austin Garcia had a double, and Donte Glover went 2-for-3 with a run.

Liberty 15, Eldorado 0 — At Eldorado, Jay Martz pitched a one-hitter and struck out eight to help the Patriots down the Sundevils in five innings.

Martz had a perfect game until Trevor Swain singled in the fourth inning for Eldorado.

Ethan Ibarra was 2-for-2 with a double, an RBI and three runs for Liberty, which also got a double from Jesse Keiser and two singles from Brandon Soratos.

Foothill 14, Del Sol 0 — At Del Sol, Bligh Madris went 3-for-3 with five RBIs, and starter Nick Cardinale allowed one hit and struck out 11 as the Falcons topped the Dragons in five innings.

Madris had two doubles and a triple and also scored three runs. Teammate Tyler Van Stone doubled and had two RBIs.

Cardinale worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the fourth inning. He also finished 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.

Zack Avery was 1-for-2 with a triple and an RBI, and Ryan Moyes and Spencer Throgmorton each scored two runs.

Nick Trujillo singled with two outs in the fourth for Del Sol’s lone hit.

Bishop Gorman 11, Desert Oasis 1 — At Gorman, Cadyn Grenier was 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs, and Matt Judd tossed a six-inning four-hitter with six strikeouts as the Gaels downed the Diamondbacks.

Cole Krzmarzick was 2-for-2 with two RBIs, and Beau Capanna went 2-for-3 with an RBI for Gorman.

Zach Rickard had an RBI single for Desert Oasis.

Cimarron-Memorial 11, Legacy 6 — At Cimarron, Adam Mitchell went 2-for-4 with a double and four RBIs, and the Spartans used an eight-run first inning to down the Longhorns.

Jestyn Largusa went 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI, and Niko Decolati was 2-for-3 with a double for Cimarron, which also got two hits and an RBI from Logan Bottrell.

Austin Michals was 2-for-3 with a double, and Nick DeLuca was 2-for-3 with an RBI for Legacy. Garrett Christiansen went 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Donta Williams was 2-for-4 for the Longhorns.

Centennial 7, Bonanza 3 — At Bonanza, Will Loucks struck out 11 in six innings and belted a three-run homer to propel the Bulldogs past the Bengals.

Cooper Powell tripled home Alex Nicoll to break a 3-3 tie in the top of the sixth inning for Centennial, which also got two hits from Ricky Koplow and Josh McKibbin.

Cruz Nevarez supplied two hits, including a two-run double, for Bonanza, which got two hits and a run scored from Andre Isaraq.

Arbor View 3, North Shore (Canada) 1 — At Arbor View, Quinn Gallagher went 2-for-3 with an RBI to help the Aggies edge North Shore.

Arbor View’s Kevin Johns pitched five scoreless innings and had four strikeouts to earn the win, and Ryan Brown pitched two innings to get the save for the Aggies.

Pahrump Valley 3, Western 2 — At Pahrump, Chad Uyeno tossed a six-hitter, striking out six and walking two, to lead the Trojans by the Warriors.

Edgar Reyes struck out 10 and allowed only three hits for Western.

Mojave 9, Clark 3 — At Mojave, Ryan Lawrence pitched a four-hitter and had three strikeouts to lift the Rattlers over the Chargers.

Chase Anderson was 3-for-3 with a double, a triple and a walk, and Tyler Ledgister went 2-for-4 with a double and a triple for Mojave. Alex Smith added a triple and three stolen bases for the Rattlers, who also got a double from Lawrence.

Clark’s Nathan Tannebaum had a double.

Faith Lutheran 21, Cheyenne 0 — At Faith Lutheran, Bobby Frank went 3-for-3 with three doubles and four RBIs to help power the Crusaders past the Desert Shields in five innings.

Dakota Greenwalt, Justin Daraban and Joshua Harmonay each supplied a double for Faith Lutheran. Erich Uelmen and Brandon Davis combined on a one-hit shutout with Uelmen earning the win.

Lincoln County 11-15, Mountain View 4-0 — At Panaca, the host Lynx turned a triple play in the first game, and McClain O’Connor fired a five-inning one-hitter in the nightcap to complete the sweep of the Saints.

Mountain View had the bases loaded with no outs in the top of the third inning of the opener when O’Connor caught a line drive at shortstop, stepped on second base and then threw to third to finish the triple play.

Colton Johnson was 3-for-5 with a triple and four RBIs, and Mike Wood went 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored in the first game for Lincoln County.

Noah Van Kempen went 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI, and Nick Jenkins was 2-for-3 with a triple and a run for Mountain View in the first game. Jenkins had the Saints’ lone hit off O’Connor in the second game, a single to lead off the fourth inning.

O’Connor faced the minimum over five innings and struck out eight. He also went 2-for-3 with three runs scored.

Johnson was 2-for-2 with a double, two RBIs and three runs, and Nick Vincent was 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Lynx. Wood, Preston Robbins and Paul Boag all had a double in the nightcap for Lincoln County.

Agassi Prep 14, Sandy Valley 4 — At Doolittle Park, Robert Blake tossed a six-inning four-hitter as the Stars downed the Sidewinders.

Zachary Robertson’s triple keyed a three-run second inning, and Agassi Prep scored seven more runs in the fourth inning to take control.
