BASEBALL: Lawrence, Rattlers slip past Bulldogs

Ryan Lawrence hit a two-run double down the left-field line with one out in the bottom of the sixth on Friday to lift Mojave’s baseball team to a 9-8 victory over visiting Virgin Valley.

Lawrence also picked up the win in relief.

Cory Tobin was 3-for-3 with a double, a solo homer and three RBIs for the Rattlers, who overcame seven errors.

Ricky Trujillo was 2-for-4 with a double and three runs to lead Virgin Valley, which scored a run in the top of the sixth to take an 8-7 lead.

Canyon Springs 3, Chaparral 1 — At Chaparral, Alex Molina struck out 11 batters as the Pioneers defeated the Cowboys.

Molina threw a complete game, allowing eight hits. The only walk he allowed was intentional.

Rashaad Jones had an RBI double to spark Canyon Springs’ offense. Erick Espinoza went 2-for-3 with a RBI, and Johnny Flores went 2-for-3 for the Pioneers.

Tommy Crone had a RBI double in the first inning to lead the Cowboys, and teammate Chad Clark went 3-for-4.

Legacy 12, Durango 7 — At Durango, Austin Michals went 3-for-5 with a homer and five RBIs, and the Longhorns scored eight runs in the third inning to beat the Trailblazers.

Donta Williams was 4-for-5 with a double, a triple and two RBIs for Legacy.

Durango’s Justin Borlase went 2-for-5 with a double, a homer, two RBIs and three runs.

Coronado 11, Valley 1 — At Coronado, Jackson Cofer went 4-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI to lead the Cougars past the Vikings in six innings.

Austin Garcia was 2-for-4 with a double and a home run to help Coronado, and teammate Tanner Bellamy went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs.

Green Valley 15, Tech 1 — At Green Valley, Troy Cropper went 2-for-4 with a double and four RBIs, and Anthony Hatch was 3-for-4 with a double and a triple to help the Gators rout the Roadrunners in five innings.

Ryan Jackson was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, and Keola Paragas went 3-for-4 with a double for Green Valley. Keaton Smith and Jarod Penniman each added two hits for the Gators.

Lincoln County 5-24, Agassi Prep 0-2 — At Agassi Prep, McClain O’Connor threw a five-hitter in the opener and the Lynx swept the Stars.

O’Connor struck out 13, walked one and also had a triple.

Colton Johnson pitched four hitless innings with seven strikeouts and a walk to get the win in the second game.

Zach Shinkle went 3-for-4 with two runs and five RBIs, and Preston Robbins was 2-for-4 with four runs and three RBIs for Lincoln County, which scored 14 runs in the first inning and finished with 20 hits.

Pahrangat Valley 19-18, Sandy Valley 0-3 — At Alamo, Wade Leavitt fired a one-hitter with five strikeouts in the first game as the Panthers swept the Sidewinders.

Ike Taylor drove in five runs in the opener, and Paden Higbee, Shawn Wadswoth and Jake Carter each had three hits for Pahranagat Valley.

Higbee and Carter had three RBIs in the second game for Pahranagat Valley, scored 15 runs in the first inning.

Tabor Maxwell threw a one-hitter and struck out seven in the nightcap.
