BASEBALL: Horton’s three-run homer sends Bulldogs past No. 1 Bishop Gorman

Kyle Horton belted a three-run home run in the second inning Wednesday to help host Centennial’s baseball team build a big lead and eventually hold off No. 1 Bishop Gorman, 6-4.

Horton’s homer gave Centennial a 6-1 lead that it held until the sixth inning when the Gaels trimmed the margin to 6-3 on homers by Brandon Wulff and Nick Gates.

The Gaels had the potential tying run on base in the seventh, but Jake Portaro came on in relief of starter Cooper Powell and got the final out.

Travis Stevens was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Portaro had an RBI single for the Bulldogs.

Gates was 2-for-4, and Cadyn Grenier went 2-for-4 with a double and a run for Gorman.

Coronado 5, Foothill 4 — At Foothill, Austin Garcia belted a two-run home run in the fifth inning to help the Cougars hold off the Falcons.

Coronado took a 5-2 lead into the bottom of the seventh before Foothill rallied to make it 5-4. Coronado reliever Adam Garcia got a strikeout with the potential tying run on base to end the game.

Tyler Bellamy had a double and a single for Coronado.

Joel Angulo supplied two hits and three RBIs, including a two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning for Foothill, which got two hits apiece from Tyler Van Stone and Zack Avery.

Cimarron-Memorial 8, Bonanza 3 — At Cimarron, Ryan McHale went 2-for-2 with a grand slam and a solo home run to lead the Spartans by the Bengals.

Logan Bottrell was 3-for-3 with a solo home run, and Alexander Marco went 2-for-3 with a solo homer for Cimarron.

Cruz Nevarez was 3-for-4, and Hunter Junge went 2-for-3 with two doubles for Bonanza, which got solo homers from Keith Werner and Chris Dunn.

Pahrump Valley 7, Mojave 3 — At Pahrump, Chad Uyeno went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI to help the Trojans top the Rattlers.

Dylan Ault was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for Pahrump.

Tyson Goodrich went 2-for-4 for Mojave.

Faith Lutheran 15, Clark 0 — At Clark, Cameron Sepede went 3-for-4 with a home run, triple, a run and five RBIs and three pitchers combined for a no-hitter as the Crusaders shut down the Chargers in five innings.

Jordan Dreibelbis went the first three innings, and Brandon Davis and Zach Trageton finished up the no-hitter for Faith Lutheran.

Logan Etherington was 2-for-3 with a home run, double, three runs and four RBIs, and Blake Giuliani went 2-for-3 with a double, a run and three RBIs for Faith Lutheran.

Cheyenne 4, Western 2 — At Western, Scott Flinn fired a four-hitter and supplied two hits and an RBI to guide the Desert Shields to victory over the Warriors.

Korey Poole was 2-for-3 with a triple and three runs for Cheyenne.

Ricardo Ordorica belted a solo homer, and Edgar Reyes had two hits and an RBI for Western.

Desert Oasis 13, Legacy 6 — At Legacy, Zach Rickard went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, and Dominic Paratore was 2-for-5 with a double and three RBIs to help the Diamondbacks top the Longhorns.

Bryson Stott went 2-for-3 with three RBIs for Desert Oasis, which trailed 6-5 before scoring six runs in the top of the fifth.

Garrett Christiansen went 2-for-3 with two triples and three RBIs for Legacy.

Del Sol 6, Eldorado 2 — At Eldorado, Mike DeLeon was 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and two runs as the Dragons beat the Sundevils.

Danny Maloney was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Cordell Bowie went 1-for-1 and walked twice for Del Sol.

Ian Reber had two singles for Eldorado.

Desert Hills (Utah) 9, Virgin Valley 0 — At Mesquite, the Thunder blanked the Bulldogs.
