BASEBALL: Horton, Bulldogs top Panthers in bizarre fashion

Kyle Horton doubled and came home on two balks in the top of the fifth to break a 2-2 tie, and Centennial’s baseball team held on for a 3-2 win at Palo Verde.

Zachary Dixon, who was 2-for-2 with two doubles and a run, pitched three scoreless innings to secure the win and earn a save for the Bulldogs.

Travis Stevens was 2-for-2 with a run, and Jared Drizin went 2-for-3 with an RBI for Centennial.

Zach Ortale was 1-for-3 with a run for Palo Verde.

Desert Oasis 4, Shadow Ridge 0 — At Shadow Ridge, A.J. Landis fired a four-hitter to lead the Diamondbacks past the Mustangs.

Landis struck out four with no walks.

Desert Oasis scored all four runs in the top of the sixth. Kyle Fuentes led off with a double and went to third on a single by Bryson Stott.

Caeden Marin reached on a bunt single to score Fuentes, and Nolan Kingham singled home Stott to make it 2-0.

Kingham was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

Mojave 2, Del Sol 1 — At Mojave, the Rattlers scored two runs in the fourth, and Ryan Lawrence pitched out of a seventh-inning jam to secure the victory over the Dragons.

Del Sol had runners at second and third with no outs in the top of the seventh. But Lawrence induced a grounder to third baseman Liam Harris, who gunned down the runner at the plate for the first out.

After a single and a sacrifice fly cut the lead to 2-1, Lawrence struck out Del Sol’s leadoff batter to end the game.

Lawrence scattered seven hits in the complete-game win.

Harris went 2-for-3 for Mojave. His double started the fourth-inning rally. He scored on an error, and Chris Clawson added an RBI single for Mojave.

Matt Styck went the distance for Del Sol, allowing five hits and striking out six.

Bonanza 7, Durango 3 — At Durango, Hunter Junge was 4-for-4 with two RBIs as the Bengals downed the Trailblazers.

Luis Lares went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Jonathan Massey had two doubles and two RBIs for Bonanza.

Spencer Faught went the distance, allowing four hits and striking out four for the Bengals.

Moapa Valley 5, Cheyenne 1 — At Cheyenne, Chaz Cornwall went 2-for-2 with a triple and an RBI, and Bo Redd supplied two hits and an RBI to help the Pirates beat the Desert Shields.

Winning pitcher Koby Frei struck out seven in five innings and hit a double for Moapa Valley.

Arbor View 11, Legacy 1 — At Legacy, Sam Pastrone doubled twice and Parker McHale added two hits and three RBIs to help the Aggies to a six-inning win over the Longhorns.

Ryan McHale and Nick Quintana each had two hits for Arbor View, which used a seven-run sixth to pull away.

Nick DeLuca doubled, and Daniel Zaragoza supplied an RBI single for Legacy.

Cimarron-Memorial 10, Tech 0 — At Cimarron, the Spartans scored seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game by the 10-run rule.

Noah Parker was 2-for-2 with a homer and two RBIs for Cimarron. Larry Quaney went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs, and teammate Noah Given was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI for the Spartans.

Osvaldo Escobar threw 3 2/3 shutout innings with six strikeouts to get the win.

Coronado 12, Sierra Vista 2 — At Coronado, Jake McLean went 3-for-3 with a triple and two runs as the Cougars downed the Mountain Lions in six innings.

Sterling Saltz was 3-for-4 with two triples, two runs and an RBI, and Jordan Dalrymple went 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs for Coronado. Wasden was 2-for-4 with a double for the Cougars.

Justin Rasavage went 2-for-3 for Sierra Vista.

Virgin Valley 14, Western 0 — At Mesquite, Koby Smothers tossed a two-hitter as the Bulldogs routed the Warriors in five innings.
