BASEBALL: Gomez helps Spring Valley to nine-inning win

Alex Gomez doubled home Carter Lambeth with the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth inning, and Spring Valley’s baseball team tacked on two more runs in a 9-6 road win over Bonanza on Monday.

Lambeth, who was 4-for-4, led off with a single to right and scored on Gomez’s second double of the game. The Grizzlies added two runs on bases-loaded walks for the final margin.

Gomez was 3-for-4 with four RBIs, and Shayne Watkins added a double and two RBIs for Spring Valley, which trailed 6-5 going into the seventh, but tied the game on Bryce Bullock’s sacrifice fly.

Hunter Junge was 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs for the Bengals, and teammate Micah Higa went 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBIs.

Silverado 7, Las Vegas 6 — At Las Vegas, Vincent Taormina’s one-out single drove in Dax Fellows from third in the top of the seventh inning to give the Skyhawks the win over the Wildcats.

Taormina, who finished 2-for-5 with three RBIs, tied the game in the top of the sixth inning with a solo home run. Dillon Johnson was 2-for-4 with two runs for Silverado.

Noah Ponce went 2-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI for Las Vegas, and Andrew Aleman was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run for the Wildcats.

Mojave 4, Canyon Springs 2 — At Mojave, Scotty Wilson struck out seven in seven innings to lead the Rattlers past the Pioneers.

Wilson scattered seven hits and didn’t allow a run until the sixth inning. The Rattlers took control of the game with a three-run third inning.

Zack Gardner had a triple and an RBI to lead the Pioneers.

Chaparral 6, Del Sol 1 — At Del Sol, Mark O’Connor allowed one hit and struck out 11 in five-plus innings to lead the Cowboys past the Dragons.

O’Connor carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning before allowing a lead off single. He was pulled after allowing that hit, and Tyler Crone finished the game.

Eric Villareal doubled and drove in two runs, and Connor Jarvis went 1-for-3 with three RBIs for Chaparral.

Boulder City 18, Desert Pines 3 — At Boulder City, Austin Shepard was 2-for-4 with six RBIs to help the Eagles to the five-inning victory over the Jaguars.

Winning pitcher Preston Van Diest went 2-for-3 with a double, three runs and two RBIs. Austin Wishard and Peyton Koopman each went 2-for-3 with a double, three runs and an RBI for Boulder City.

Juan Castaneda and Luis Tlatenchi each went 1-for-2 with an RBI for Desert Pines.

Bishop Gorman 26, Legacy 9 — At Gorman, Blake Sanchez was 3-for-3 with a double, a triple, a run and three RBIs as the Gaels outslugged the Longhorns in five innings.

Cadyn Grenier, Beau Capanna, Marques Paige, Brandon Wulff and Grant Robbins each went 2-for-2 for the Gaels. Grenier and Capanna each scored three runs with two RBIs, and Wulff scored four runs and had three RBIs for Gorman, which had 18 players with at least one hit.

Alex Tadd was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs, and teammate Austin Michals went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for Legacy.

Tech 12, Virgin Valley 2 — At Mesquite, Logan Campbell tossed a two-hitter and struck out eight as the Roadrunners downed the Bulldogs in five innings.

Alexis Acosta went 3-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs for Tech. Trevor Kephart went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs, Sebastian Fitzgerald doubled and drove in two runs, and Chandler Gehring was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two stolen bases for the Roadrunners.

Durango 16, Sierra Vista 10 — At Sierra Vista, the Trailblazers scored five runs in the top of the fourth to take the lead and held on to top the Mountain Lions.

Duke Pahukoa hit 2-for-4 with a double and four RBIs to lead Durango, which led 12-10 after four.

Cade Burdett was 2-for-4 with two runs for Sierra Vista, and teammate Blake Kaplan hit a solo home run.

Liberty 22, Valley 2 — Omar Ortiz was 3-for-3 with three runs and three RBIs to help the Patriots rout the Vikings in five innings.

Michael Wong went 2-for-4 with a double and five RBIs, and Al Gourrier was 2-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and two runs for Liberty.

Jonny Gilleres was 2-for-2 with a double and three runs, and Nick Rush went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for the Patriots.

Moapa Valley 9, Sunrise Mountain 3 — At Sunrise Mountain, Anthony Cornwall doubled and drove in three runs to lead the Pirates past the Miners.

Cornwall also pitched the first three innings, striking out five and not allowing a hit. Talan McClure pitched the final four innings to pick up the win. He allowed one earned run on four hits while striking out four.

Riley Longman went 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs for the Pirates.
