BASEBALL: Berg, Wolves claim first place with win over Coronado

Trever Berg tossed a five-hitter Tuesday as Basic’s baseball team topped visiting Coronado, 2-0 in a battle for first place in the Southeast League.

Cory Wills was 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI, and Roger Riley was 1-for-2 with an RBI for the Wolves, who scored single runs in the second and third innings.

Anthony Olheiser was 2-for-3 for the Cougars.

Desert Oasis 4, Centennial 2 — At Centennial, Chase Adams’ two-run double keyed a four-run fifth inning as the Diamondbacks downed the Bulldogs.

Chris Van Kuren was 2-for-3 with a double and a run, and Caeden Marin was 1-for-4 with an RBI for Desert Oasis.

Jared Drizin went 2-for-3 with a double and a run, and Tanner Wright was 1-for-3 with a triple and a run for Centennial.

Green Valley 7, Rancho 1 — At Green Valley, Jarrett Perns was 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs to help the Gators top the Rams.

Drake Maningo went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and winning pitcher Blake Inouye tossed a five-hitter with four strikeouts for Green Valley.

Angel Walker was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, and Zach Barnhart went 2-for-3 for Rancho.

Spring Valley 12, Mojave 7 — At Spring Valley, winning pitcher Bryce Bullock was 2-for-3 with four RBIs as the Grizzlies topped the Rattlers.

Carter Lambeth went 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs, and Jaxson Otis was 3-for-4 for Spring Valley.

Andrew Foley was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, and Chase Anderson was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI for Mojave.

Foothill 11, Eldorado 1 — At Foothill, Trentin Price was 2-for-3 with three RBIs, and Danny Hauck went 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs as the Falcons topped the Sundevils in five innings.

Anthony Pannullo went 2-for-3 with an RBI for Foothill. Austin Wilson tossed a four-hitter and struck out seven for the Falcons.

Sierra Vista 16, Cheyenne 1 — At Sierra Vista, Kaven Alferez was 2-for-2 with a triple and five RBIs to lead the Mountain Lions past the Desert Shields in five innings.

Justin Rasavage was 2-for-2 with a double and four RBIs, and Chandler Smith was 2-for-3 with an RBI for Sierra Vista.

Antonio Chavez was 2-for-2 with a run, and Joseph Rose went 2-for-2 for Cheyenne.

Faith Lutheran 13, Clark 3 — At Faith Lutheran, Joshua Harmonay went 2-for-2 with a double, two runs and three RBIs to lead the Crusaders by the Chargers in five innings.

Dominic Grant struck out five in four innings to earn the win, and Chad Jones had two doubles for Faith Lutheran.

Clark’s Thomas Campbell was 1-for-3, including a two-run double in the first inning.

Snow Canyon (Utah) 9, Shadow Ridge 5 — At Shadow Ridge, Chance Thorkelson homered, and the Warriors used a five-run second inning to top the Mustangs.

Dustin McDonald and Trevin Reynolds each went 2-for-4 with a double and a run, and Jakob Chambers was 2-for-4 for Shadow Ridge.

The Meadows 18, Calvary Chapel 0 — At The Meadows, Alex Agrawal, Christian Rimoldi, Andrew Martinez and Jacob Gleason combined to throw a five-inning no-hitter and struck out 11 as the Mustangs topped the Lions.

Agrawal also went 3-for-4 with a grand slam, a double and five RBIs, and Adam Martinez was 3-for-4 with a triple, a double and three RBIs for The Meadows. Gleason was 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Nabeel Afzal homered and drove in three runs for the Mustangs.

Indian Springs 13, Spring Mountain 3 — At Mountain Ridge Park, Nino Alvarez, Ryan Frank, Austin Thomas and Ty White combined on a five-inning one-hitter as the Thunderbirds topped the Golden Eagles.

Daniel Highfield was 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs, and Alvarez and Thomas each went 1-for-3 with a triple for Indian Springs.

Mountain View 11, Lake Mead 1 — At Mountain View, winning pitcher Chase Ottofy tossed a five-inning two-hitter with 10 strikeouts and was 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs to power the Saints by the Eagles.

Joshua Walker went 2-for-3 with a double for Mountain View, which led 7-0 after two innings.

Needles 14, Laughlin 4 — At Needles, Calif., the Mustangs used an eight-run second inning to top the Cougars in five innings.

Pahrump Valley 7, Western 0 — At Western, the Trojans won by forfeit.
