Cimarron-Memorial removes Parcells as football coach

Just one day into the high school football season, Cimarron-Memorial already has made a coaching change.

Cimarron principal Lori Lawson-Sarabyn confirmed Friday that John Parcells was removed as the Spartans' head coach. Parcells was in his fifth season guiding the Spartans, who fell at Cheyenne, 38-0 on Thursday in the annual "Duel in the Desert" game.

Lawson-Sarabyn confirmed that an interim head coach had been selected.

"Let us in our time release that. We will let everyone know who the new coach is," she said, declining further comment on the situation.

A source who requested anonymity said former Legacy coach Dave Snyder, an assistant on Parcells' staff, will serve as the interim coach and has not decided if he would fully pursue the head coaching job.

Parcells, who was 19-20 in his tenure at Cimarron, was reached by phone Friday, but declined to comment. The Spartans were 4-6 overall and 2-2 in the Northwest League last year, but allowed 30 or more points in all six losses.
