WRESTLING: Unsportsmanlike penalty costs Desert Pines point, match against Western

Desert Pines and Western each finished with 41 points on Tuesday, but an unsportsmanlike penalty cost the host Jaguars a point, allowing the Warriors to earn the wrestling win.

Randel Rivera won his 145-pound match in just 54 seconds to lead Western. Ayleen Coronado (126), Jose Ramirez (132) and Jeremiah Walker (152) also won by fall for the Warriors.

Winston Miller won by pin at 138 for Desert Pines, which won six matches by forfeit.

Cimarron-Memorial 47, Faith Lutheran 24 — At Faith Lutheran, five Spartans won by fall to carry them over the Crusaders.

Nathaniel Rodriguez (126), Daniel Rodriguez (132), Stanton Peay (152), Cristian Rodriguez (160) and Nefi Santos (220) all won by pin for the Spartans.

Faith Lutheran’s Kile Driscoll picked up a 17-0 technical fall at 106 pounds, and teammate Peter Enos won by fall at 145 pounds.

Cheyenne 60, Sunrise Mountain 15 —At Sunrise Mountain, Calvin Jackson pinned his 182-pound opponent 60 seconds in the match to carry the Desert Shields over the Miners.

Sunrise Mountain’s Alex Herrera picked up a pinfall victory at 170 pounds.

The Desert Shields also benefited from eight forfeits.

Mojave 56, Pahrump Valley 24 — At Pahrump, Dominic Mota’s 15-0 technical fall win at 113 pounds capped a dominant night for the Rattlers.

Seven Mojave wrestlers picked up a victory by fall, including 285-pounder Ivan Parra, who won in just 58 seconds.

Pahrump’sDavid Diaz (160) had the quickest victory of the night, picking up a pin in just 56 seconds.

Green Valley 65, Foothill 4 — At Green Valley, the Gators won six matches by fall and rolled past the Falcons.

Justus Scott (132), Wallace Zernich (145), Giullian Nakamatsu (160), Dylan Warr (182), Robert Razo (195) and Anthony Valenti (285) each won by pin for Green Valley.
