Lowry wins Class 3A state wrestling title

Lowry had five individual champions on Saturday on the way to the team crown at the Class 3A state wrestling meet in Winnemucca.

The Buckaroos finished with 221½ points, easily outdistancing second-place Spring Creek (170½). Boulder City was third with 110.

Lowry also had two second-place finishers and five third-place finishers.

Jace Billingsly (125 pounds), Skylyr Bleck (145), Ryan Nelson (152), Trevor Grant (171), Paeden Underwood (215) won individual crowns for the Buckaroos.

Southern Nevada schools produced four individual champions.

Faith Lutheran’s Pierce Holtfreter won the 103-pound title, pinning Lowry’s Daniel Raynor in 3 minutes, 34 seconds.

Virgin Valley had a pair of champions. Taylor Falls won at 112, pinning Truckee’s Ricky Cooper in 4:43. Stetson Ruth had the Bulldogs’ other title, posting a 9-6 decision over Hazyn McGrath of Fernley at 135 pounds.

Boulder City’s Allen Haines won the 130-pound title, pinning Lowry’s Sean Raynor in 1:19.

Faith Lutheran’s Greg Robinson placed second at 140 pounds. Boulder City’s Steven Kaposta was second at 152.

Virgin Valley’s Wyatt Robinson was second at 215.

Moapa Valley’s Riley Staley placed second at 189, and teammate Cyle Durham was third at 112.

Boulder City’s Kyle Erickson was third at 285.
