ROUNDUP: Desert Oasis, Tech each earn first girls tennis win

Desert Oasis swept the singles sets and the first-year school gained its first girls tennis victory, 11-7, over host Rancho on Tuesday.

Danica Ingwaldson, Lauren Lightfoot and Cory Gardley each went 3-0 in singles for the Diamondbacks.

Kristen Neubauer and Abony Moore were 3-0 in doubles for the Rams.

Tech 11, Moapa Valley 7 — At Overton, MarLai Sai was 3-0 in singles, and the doubles team of Alexis Sanchez and Maria Millette finished 3-0 as the Roadrunners won for the first time in the program's three-year history.

Amy Edwards went 2-1 in singles for Moapa Valley. 

Palo Verde 13, Green Valley 5 — At Green Valley, Palo Verde won five of six matches in each of the first two rotations to put away the win early.

The doubles teams of Alissa Rea and Megan McGuire; Nikki Levy and Krysta Levy; and Gabby Imai and Jen Falk each went 2-0 for the Panthers. Chelsey Koktavy won her first two singles matches before falling to Jessica Hsu in the third rotation.

Eight of the nine Panthers’ starters are either seniors or juniors.

“We’ve got a good mix of leaders,” Palo Verde coach Zach Brandt said. “We’ve got girls who do their talking with their rackets, and we’ve got some more vocal leaders.”

Hsu went 3-0 for the Gators.

Spring Valley 11, Cheyenne 7— At Cheyenne, Spring Valley won its season opener behind 3-0 sweeps in singles from Clare Brantley, Jennifer Hewitt and Sierra Weyer.

Eldorado 10, Shadow Ridge 8 — At Eldorado, Rochelle Casino, Christina Herrera and Dolores Maceda each finished 3-0 in singles to carry the Sundevils past the Mustangs.

Shadow Ridge’s No. 1 doubles team of Deb Hogue and Emylia Terry finished 3-0.

Canyon Springs 10, Del Sol 8 — At Canyon Springs, Rebecca Breland was 3-0 in singles to help the Pioneers defeat the Dragons.

Joy Jones went 2-1 in singles, and the doubles team of Galina Krol and Keandra Mason was 2-1 for Canyon Springs. Alex Uglow was 2-1 in singles for Del Sol.

Las Vegas 10, Basic 8 — At Basic, Val Shively was 3-0 in singles as the Wildcats edged the Wolves.

Megan Feher and Jenilee Medina went 3-0 in doubles for Basic.

Durango 11, Centennial 7 — At Centennial, the doubles team of Jaime Dean and Kaitlyn Moore went 3-0 to help the Trailblazers hold off the Bulldogs.

Hannah Barnum was 3-0 in singles for Centennial.

Valley 11, Liberty 7 — At Liberty, Angel Ordiway and Jenn Beaudry went 3-0 in doubles and the Vikings defeated the Patriots.

Arbor View 11, Clark 7— At Clark, Taylor Savage (3-0) and Lacey Olson (2-0) went unbeaten, and Taylor Bland and Takeyrah Reed were 3-0 in doubles to lift the Aggies to a season-opening win.

Clark’s Natasha James went 2-0 in singles.

Sierra Vista 15, Foothill 3— At Foothill, Katy Daly went 3-0 in singles, and Megan Hendershot and Jazzine Williams were 3-0 in doubles to spark the Mountain Lions in their season opener.

Foothill’s Lili Madera was 2-1 in singles.

Coronado 13, Bonanza 5 — At Bonanza, three doubles teams went 2-0 as the Cougars stopped the Bengals.

The teams of Jordan Luna and Jordan Bruy; Ilyssa Popowcer and Liz Gibbons; and Hillary Johnson and Haley Johnson each went 2-0 for Coronado. Tiffany Cook was 2-1 in singles.

Bonanza’s Allison Matlovic went 3-0 in singles.

Chaparral 13, Boulder City 4 — At Chaparral, Kelley Terry, Kiarra Miler and Sara Andersen each went 3-0 in singles as the Cowboys beat the Eagles.

Emma Garcia and Hannah Grassie was 3-0 in doubles for Chaparral.

Silverado 11, Cimarron-Memorial 7 — At Silverado, Jamie Cope won her lone singles set as the Skyhawks downed the Spartans.

Starlyn Thomas was 3-0 in singles for Cimarron.

Desert Pines 5, Legacy 0 — At Legacy, Ana Castillo won both of her singles sets to carry the Jaguars over the Longhorns.

Jasmine James and Brenda Garcia won their doubles set 6-0 for Desert Pines.

Mojave 3, Western 3 — At Western, neither team could field a full squad and they played to a tie. Kristen Bachman and Nicole Santiwan went 2-0 in doubles for Mojave.
