1A HONORS: Lewis, Panthers dominate Southern League girls awards

Five all-league first team players and a league Co-MVP is uncommon in high school girls basketball. Pahranagat Valley isn’t a common team, though.

Pahranagat Valley senior wing Halie Lewis was voted the Class 1A Southern League Co-Most Valuable Player by coaches, along with Lund senior forward Melynda Boren, and the Panthers placed five additional players to the all-league first team.

Bailee Hosier, Kimberly Lewis, Kyla Mortensen, Traci Strong and Kennedy Huntsman received first-team all-league honors for the Panthers (26-4), who won their second consecutive 1A state title in February in Reno.

The first team was rounded out by Beatty’s Melynda Gross and Amber Ibarra, and Tonopah’s Alli Friel.

Coach of the Year went to Lund’s Shane Boren, who guided the Mustangs (12-8) to the semifinals of the league tournament.
