RECRUITING: At least five local football players line up recruiting visits

At least five uncommitted senior football players from the Las Vegas area have lined up official recruiting visits to various schools as the Feb. 4 signing day draws closer.

Las Vegas High quarterback Emir Lopez said he and Palo Verde running back Sidney Hodge will visit Southern Utah together on Jan. 23.

“It’s good to get that first offer,” said Lopez, who pointed out that Southern Utah’s offense is similar to Las Vegas’ spread. “It wouldn’t be a bad fit to go there.”

Lopez also has been in contact with Division II Saint Anselm of Manchester, N.H.

Las Vegas defensive tackle Alanzi Langstaff expects to have an in-home visit from UNR next week, Wildcats coach Chris Faircloth said.

Cheyenne offensive lineman Jeremiah Tofaeono plans to visit UNR this weekend, Utah State next weekend and possibly Oregon State after that, Desert Shields coach Charles Anthony said.

Neither Cheyenne cornerback Khyriece Campbell nor free safety Kevontae Clark has given a commitment, but both are “locked in” with Utah State, Anthony said.

Cheyenne linebacker Damien Proby’s only visit was to Northwestern from Dec. 12 to 13 but said Wednesday he has yet to commit. He also has offers from Oregon State, San Diego State, Utah State, Washington State, Wyoming and UNLV.

Cheyenne running back Marcus Sullivan committed to UNLV on Dec. 11.

Faith Lutheran quarterback/receiver/safety David Sperry said he will visit Navy on Jan. 17 and San Diego on Jan. 31.

Palo Verde linebacker Liloa Nobriga is scheduled to visit Colorado on Jan. 16. He already has visited Hawaii and Utah.

The list of area seniors to have committed so far includes nine players: Foothill offensive tackle Jake Broyles (Boise State), Bishop Gorman defensive end Justin Chaisson (Oklahoma), Gorman cornerback Charles Childers (UNLV), Silverado defensive end Keenan Graham (UCLA), Palo Verde cornerback Torin Harris (Southern California), Spring Valley defensive tackle Nate Holloway (UNLV), Sullivan, Gorman safety John Therrell (UNLV) and Silverado cornerback Michael Wadsworth (Hawaii).
