NOTES: Foothill’s Doxtator still high on recruiters’ lists

Drew Doxtator has missed nearly half of the Foothill football team’s games this season. But that hasn’t stopped college recruiters from maintaining interest in the senior quarterback.

Doxtator is the nation’s top uncommitted pro-style quarterback, according to Rivals.com, and the 6-foot-3-inch, 212-pounder is becoming a hot commodity as schools look to fill out their recruiting classes.

“There’s no doubt about how he throws the football,” Falcons coach Marty Redmond said.

Doxtator has scholarship offers from Colorado State, New Mexico, San Jose State, UNLV and Utah State, according to Rivals.com. He said he also has been hearing from Arkansas State, Cincinnati, Colorado, Mississippi, South Florida and Utah, while Southern California recently came into the picture.

USC offered only one quarterback in the class of 2014 — Stanford commit Keller Chryst — and still is looking to sign a quarterback in February. Doxtator said the Trojans are at the top of his list.

“If (coach Lane) Kiffin was still there, I’d say things would have moved forward,” Doxtator said. “The way things are now, it’s a little bit of who knows. … They don’t have another quarterback offered, and they said I was No. 1 on their list.”

Doxtator suffered an injury to the medial collateral ligament in his right knee in the first half against Las Vegas High on Sept. 7 and missed Foothill’s next two games. Doxtator, who sat out the final four games of his junior season with a similar injury, returned against Del Sol on Oct. 4 and had his best game of the season in last week’s 30-27 victory over Basic.

Doxtator completed 26 of 36 passes for 329 yards and three touchdowns, showing his arm strength on several throws along with his touch on a fade route to wide receiver Ian Ellis for a third-quarter touchdown. Doxtator has thrown for 756 yards with eight touchdowns and three interceptions in 3½ games this season.

“What college coaches have told me is … it really comes down to intelligence, potential, arm strength, size, and for the most part, I feel I have all that,” Doxtator said. “It definitely would be nice to back it up more here on film, but I think with the Basic game, it showed quite a bit.”

■ STARKS ELIGIBLE — Former Bishop Gorman running back Nathan Starks was cleared to play for Cherry Creek (Colo.) last week after an arbitrator ruled in his favor during a binding arbitration hearing.

Starks was dismissed from Gorman in late April for a violation of school rules and enrolled at the Denver-area school in July, but the Colorado High School Activities Association declared him ineligible. He sat out the first six games of the season after the CHSAA turned down multiple appeals.

Starks, one of the nation’s top recruits, ran for 53 yards and a touchdown on seven carries in his season debut Friday.

■ MUSOVSKI SETS RECORDS — Liberty senior forward Danny Musovski broke the Nevada large-school soccer record for career goals in Monday’s 8-0 soccer victory over Del Sol.

Musovski, who had four goals and an assist, has 125 goals, surpassing the mark of 123 set by Rancho’s James Tate from 1979 to 1982. Musovski also broke his own large-school state record with his 44th goal of the season.

■ RECENT COMMITMENTS — Bonanza offensive lineman Jordan Knapp made an oral commitment to play football at Weber State. Also, Bishop Gorman swimmer Catie Miller committed to Duke.
