2A HONORS: Bobcats roll out all-state awards; Meadows’ Gosse named Offensive POY

White Pine’s football team fell one win short in 2011 of the program’s first state title since 1968.

The Bobcats still managed plenty of hardware on the Class 2A all-state team.

White Pine’s Paul Bingham was named 2A State Coach of the Year after taking the Bobcats to an 11-1 record, including a 7-0 mark in the 2A Southern League.

White Pine senior center and defensive tackle Christopher Hibbs was named Lineman of the Year.

Offensive Player of the Year went to The Meadows senior quarterback Garrett Gosse, who passed for 2,700 yards and 32 touchdowns to lead the Mustangs (8-3) to a second-place finish in league and the 2A state semifinals.

Class 2A state champion Pershing County (11-1) took home Most Valuable Player in senior running back/safety Marcus Tippens and Defensive Player of the Year in senior linebacker Brian Smokey.
