Newcomers lead Pilots to win in season opener

Newcomers Brandon Ashley and Dominic Artis scored 30 and 20 points, respectively, to power Findlay Prep to a season-opening 107-63 win over Impact Academy at Henderson International on Tuesday night.

Ashley, a senior forward headed to Arizona, grabbed 11 rebounds. Artis, a senior point guard committed to Oregon, supplied seven rebounds, eight assists and three steals.

Junior guard Nigel Williams-Goss had 12 points, seven rebounds and seven assists for Findlay Prep, and senior forward Winston Shepard contributed 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Senior forward Anthony Bennett had 11 points and six rebounds for Findlay Prep, which also got 11 points from senior guard Amedeo Della Valle.

Junior forward Chris Wood, who has committed to UNLV, added seven points for the Pilots, who led 53-36 at halftime.

Findlay Prep’s next two games are at home against Stoneridge Prep (Calif.), the first at 7 p.m. Friday at Henderson International.

The Pilots opened the season ranked No. 1 in the nation in the MaxPreps.com poll that debuted Tuesday. The Pilots are No. 8 in the ESPN RISE rankings.
