BOYS BASKETBALL: Mathis, Vikings top Wolves

Spencer Mathis scored 12 points, and Valley’s boys basketball team used a 12-4 run to start the game on its way to a 47-42 win over visiting Basic on Thursday.

Taveon Jackson had 11 points, and Cameron Burton added 10 points for the Vikings.

Antraye Johnson led the Wolves with 21 points.

Silverado 60, Del Sol 55 — At Del Sol, Joe Baldi poured in 21 points, including 8-for-10 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter, to guide the Skyhawks to a win over the Dragons.

Jason Matthew supplied 18 points for Silverado.

Eduardo Romero paced Del Sol with 17 points. Rashaun Lawson added 15 points, and Kyle Collins and Jonross Juhas scored 10 points apiece for the Dragons.

Clark 76, Eldorado 57 — At Clark, Diontae Jones poured in 21 points, and the Chargers used a 26-13 third-quarter burst to pull away from the Sundevils.

Sherron Wilson added 16 points for Clark.

Jayveon Brown led Eldorado with 37 points.

Green Valley 81, Spring Valley 50 — At Spring Valley, Troy Cropper poured in 24 points, and the Gators outscored the Grizzlies 49-22 in the second half on their way to the win.

Christopher Miller added 10 points for Green Valley.

DeVante Moten had 12 points for Spring Valley.

Las Vegas 78, Liberty 34 — At Las Vegas, Re’Kwon Smith scored 22 of his 28 points in the first half as the Wildcats ran past the Patriots.

Tyler Bey and Devon Colley each added 10 points for Las Vegas, which built a 47-22 halftime lead.

Ed O’Bannon had 13 points for Liberty.

Foothill 85, Orem (Utah) 61 — At Orem, Utah, Matt Rapp poured in 23 points to lead the Falcons past the Tigers.

Jalen Shepard added 19 points, and Torrance Littles scored 13 for Foothill.

Dalton Nixon paced Orem with 24 points.

Cherry Creek (Colo.) 65, Durango 62 — At Durango, Griffin Parr’s three-point play with 10 seconds left allowed the Bruins to top the Trailblazers.

Darryl Gaynor had 23 points and five rebounds for Durango, but he missed a potential game-tying 3-pointer just before the buzzer. Vee Price had 15 points and eight rebounds for the Trailblazers.

Centennial 77, Calexico (Calif.) 35 — At Yuma, Ariz., Khalil Thompson scored 13 points, and the Bulldogs cruised in the opening round of the Southwest Rotary Classic.

Troy Brown had 11 points, and Eddie Davis added 10 points and six rebounds for Centennial, which led 53-17 at halftime.

Garrett Scheer and Brandon Page also had six rebounds apiece for Centennial.

Needles 60, Mayer (Ariz.) 44 — At Williams, Ariz., Wyatt Upshaw had 19 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists to lead the Mustangs by the Wildcats in the Williams Holiday Tournament.

Cody Tobler added 12 points, and William Dunn scored 10 for Needles.

Palo Verde 105, San Luis (Ariz.) 30 — At Yuma, Ariz., Connor Lemmon scored 16 points as the Panthers rolled to the win at the Southwest Rotary Classic.

Billy Sparks and Taylor Miller each had 14 points, and Braxton Richards and Grant Dressler scored 10 apiece for Palo Verde. The Panthers led 33-13 after one quarter and 53-19 at the half.

Vista Grande (Ariz.) 72, Mountain View 57 — At Yuma, Ariz., Tevin Gray scored 18 points, but the Saints got off to a slow start and lost to the Spartans in the opening round of the Southwest Rotary Classic.

Connor LeBoeuf scored 12, and Jacob Lee added 10 points for Mountain View.

Christian Garcia, Jacob Person, and Sawyer Weddle each scored 15 points to lead Vista Grande, which jumped out to a 26-11 first-quarter advantage behind six 3-pointers, including one by Weddle at the buzzer.

Pershing County 65, Spring Mountain 33 — At Hawthorne, Harlow Hawkins led the Golden Eagles with seven points in a loss to the Mustangs at the Serpent Classic.

Nyshawn Bennett had four points and 20 rebounds for Spring Mountain, which committed 24 turnovers.

Virginia City 57, Spring Mountain 44 — At Hawthorne, Devonte Richey scored 13 points, and Josh Banasiak added nine points for the Golden Eagles in a loss to the Muckers at the Serpent Classic.

Bennett had eight points for Spring Mountain.

Clint Hess finished with 29 points to lead Virginia City.
